RATTLESNAKE,
I can only say that either I lucked out or it's alot easier than it appears!!! I did have some hardware problems but if your useing a pc that you know has 2 good serial ports and a working floppy drive that boots up at start-up and has a fast enough processor you will be goin in no time... After I had my hardware problems taken care of I was emulateing in a matter if minutes!!! To tell ya the truth I really can't help many people because half the questions some folks ask I haven't even figured out what there talking about yet... But if you have one that I know about I'll sure help ya... Good Luck...
coop

To anybody who knows the answer to this, I am a "dos" moron, don't know it, don't pretend to, but what are all the dos commands that a lot of people are typing in and why didn't I have to do it??? I was in dos when I created my aux card and when I started everything up I had to tell it what com port the programmer was hooked to, and that was it... I followed the step by step guide and it all worked fine... The more I read the more afraid I am to ever shut this thing off, I'm afraid I may not get it started again!!! :D

You and Travis spilled the beans, you have been emulating together, I read it somewhere, not Penthouse, for sure. Ya know what that means? ...Yep, it means we might not be able to help you with dos commands. It's a real no no to mess around in someone else's emulation territory. Sorry....LOL

OK OK if you really need help with dos commands, you found the right guy. Us older guys usually exit windows to dos, and type the commands manually. That's the way we learned it along time ago in a galaxy far away and you just can't teach an old dog new tricks. If you really might need help with dos commands, at least let me watch you guys emulate.

LOL!!

I'm with you Coop, After i reread dir. to put Aux. card at 28 updates instead of the 63 i was trying with it took like 10 min.
RATTLESNAKE, get that guide from HU that Coop used and it's to simple (minus any hardware problems)I've set up 4 so far and it has worked every time. GL, finkle

PS Spelled~Wrong posted that guide.

hhhmmm...think we need a new forum around here to cover coopulation...anyway this emu stuff seems to be a little easier than I thought it would be kind of like programming well applying a script to my first card (I didnt program it RAM9999 made that all easy for us) anyway got my unlooper no backorder probs there, did the bsboot1 thing to it, got my card auxed no problem got a spare computer setting here, made my .cor file no problem even edited my bin as instructed on kayo's web page so it may not be so succeptable to blacking out, now all I need is my emu which I have been waiting on since the 28'th, was supposed to be here around the 3'rd or 4'th, then it didnt come so I mailed them and asked nicely when it would, they told me it will ship out tomorow, which would have made it leave them yesterday, but they didnt email me an invoice so it didnt leave I guess..so when I still didnt get anything from them today I told them to jump off a cliff and cancel my order so now I need to know:::

does anyone know if ANYONE IS SHIPPING EMU'S WITHOUT A WAIT??????? I am begging ya pleasse PM me and tell me I refuse to pay the $90 a month or whatever the full deal is and this $19.99 package is KILLING ME...

I am so bored I may just have to get on the Den here and start writing long long long boring novels in the forums and nobody wants that now do you?

Rock'on

wish I would have started emulating before BS like I thougt about.

CHillgirl,

Good luck to you and all you who are new at emulating!

I've decided that I am not going to go through the work of resurecting the old puter that is missing this and that, not to mention putting the money into buying a new unsundayed h-card.

Regardless, this hobby has been alot of fun, I've gotten more than my moneys worth, and I wish you all luck. I will cross my fingers and hope that someday their is a fix for my sundayed card. Ive still got my subbed hu, and life is good.

Hmmmm, I think I have it together, I pick up my emu board tomorrow, made my aux card and bootable floppy, tomorrow we will find out if I am "coopulating" (I usually coopulate by myself!)

Guys and Gals unfamiliar with DOS, don't be scared, jump right in, it looks alot harder than it is,

Al, the dos commands are coming back to me, I remember when a 25 MHz cpu was SMOKING! and you had no choice at all to learn DOS! (but when win95 came along I promptly forgot it!)

Al,
I didn't spill any beans...:D Isn't there something that a person could just print out that has basic dos commands??? When I started dos for creating my aux card it was in c:\windows and I had NO idea of how to get it to go to my "a" drive??? Had to call my ex/boss for the commands!!! I don't mind trying but the constant "bad command or file name" error gets old after awhile!!! I know to you pros it seems silly but for someone who has never used dos it's not easy to comprehend...

Hi finkle62 :D

trmn8r,
Here's where I got my emu board... They're a sight advertiser... But shipping without a wait is something you'd have to find out about...

Thanks florencedollar,
Wish you would come along for the ride!!!

quaddawg,
Good Luck today!!! Sounds like alot more of the bser's will join the "Emu Club" this weekend... Hopefully I'll get Farmer Dawn on the members list soon... It's fun, you'll like it!!! :D

Snake, trust me man, it's real simple. Just follow spelled wrongs thread in the Emu Forum, better yet go see HackHus site and get original that spelled wrong used, it'll guide you right through V3, dos and all. You won't have to ask any questions at all.

Tr, Beyond the deep had some in stock last Sun. I had mine Thurs. You can go to the dealer forum and talk directly to Sleeper, he'll let you know if there is still some in stock.

Coop,
You might find this site interesting to learn more about DOS commands: http://www.computerhope.com/msdos.htm

Gee:

I nad no idea that the current generation of windows users didn't know that dos stuff. WOW! I personally find that sometimes using the Windows explorer and the mouse just takes too long to create and move files.

There is so much to learn....Firstly, when you boot in dos the computer looks for two files first, on your boot disk, config.sys and autoexec.bat. Config.sys sets certain parameters and even lets you start some files in high memory to save the 640K space. Some windows programs actually create and add to config.sys. Do a Windows search and you might find that file, copy it to the boot disk. Also you can use a word processor to look at and modify the file, however it has to be saved is Dos Aach. which leaves it with a .txt extension, rename to config.sys from config.txt. One command you should have in the config.sys file is following. device=c:\windows\himem.sys. Autoexec.bat comes next, this tells the computer which drive and directory to refer to, as default, when looking for a file, that is the path command..path=a:\. In addition, Autoexec.bat also will start a program, the last command in the bat file is the program name with or without the .exe added. Anyhow I could go on and on..Make a boot disk and experiment with config.sys and autoexec.bat before using the disk to start the emulator. Research dos.commands on the internet. If I can help, be specific and I'll tap the old memory bank.

I'm with you Snake. I'm hoping my blue board arrives today. I plan on watching PPV by Sunday night (fingers crossed). I’m worn-out reading the “how to do manuals” It’s time to get down to business and go to work.

Its not that difficult folks, you don't have to be a dos expert and if you have a valid bin on your card then you don't even need to create/edit a .cor file....

Here is a step by step (thanks Fugg) that I used and was watching tv in less than 5 min... really !!!

============================================================
first off,
use ver 3.0
no more "1 or 2 sec blackouts" (PGM KICKS BUTT!!)
if the card you are using as a aux card already has a valid bin image on it, YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUPPLY A COR FILE AT ALL!!!

i repeat,

if the card you are using as a aux card already has a valid bin image on it, YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUPPLY A COR FILE AT ALL!!!

if your aux card has been aux'ed befor with any other version of sle44 than 3.0, USE THE VERSION THAT YOU USED TO AUX THE CARD TO DE-AUX IT!!!

command to de-aux (or virginize) the card:
aux card on com1 - sle44e_p /a /v /p1
aux card on com2 - sle44e_p /a /v
(yes, to de-aux use sle44e_p NOT sle44a_p)

once you have a good, clean card,
here's the command to aux the card: (remember, use 3.0!)
aux card on com1 - sle44a_p
aux card on com2 - sle44a_p /p2

befor auxing, clean the card to 26.
if you have probs, try cleaning the card to 28, then try again.
if you still have probs, try to re-apply the valid sub bin image again, and give it another shot.

once you have a good aux card, put it on com 2 and the emulator board on com1 and run:
sle44e_p /a
if you want the time correct, and your not in the eastern time zone, add /z# - time zone 0T,1:NFD,2:EST,4:CST,6:MST,8:PST
a.k.a. for central time:
sle44e_p /a /z4

i have been told if your using a 5th gen receiver, you need to set the zipcode with the /c# swtich
a.k.a. for pacific time in beverley hills:
sle44e_p /a /z8 /c90210

if you must use a cor file, rename it to sle44e_p.cor and put it in the same directory (or disk) as the sle44e_p.exe program. don't worry, if you name it sle44e_p.cor, it will find it.

imho, i think some of the "help" files out there cause more problems than they fix. this is not a blanket accusation of all help files, just some are more trouble than their worth.

i don't suggest using the xpl or xvb files to aux a card.
(you may have to use it or a unlooper to remove it if you used it to aux your card befor)
simply because i don't know who wrote them, and i KNOW PGM wrote sle44a_p, and when it comes right down to it, who ya gonna trust?
PGM or some unknown scripter?

PGM has NEVER led me astray!

ok, lets say the the bin dies and then we'll see a post...

"the bin that's on my aux card just showed up on dtv's blacklist! thanks, Fugg, NOW what the fork do i do??!?!!?!"

not to fear, good friend, PGM has taken care of us!

just open the bin you want to use in basich and clean it to 63. (or anything, really. sle44e_p automaticly adds 63 updates to the core file when it starts!)
copy it to the directory (or disk) that the sle44e_p program is in.

if it says:

Overwrite sle44e_p.cor <Yes, No, All>?

press Y and hit enter. that's the file we want to replace. it's the cor file that the program automaticlly made from the image on your aux card.

now all ya got to do is restart the emulator and watch tv!

well I see others posting urls here so if I get banned here well its all their fault..but here goes....

I set up my card and cor files with the help of this site:
http://www.megsinet.net/~kayo/emu-ins.htm
This site made it all real simple for me..well I think so anyway, if I ever get an emu board in I'll know for sure.. but it was simple enough using this sites directions..course the dos commands were no problem for me I remember my first puter was only 16 mgh. 4 meg of ram and what is windows anyway...wow times have changed for the better huh?

Hey Florence, you do know that you can use that BS card of yours to emulate with right? You will need an unlooper if you don't have one, but I bet there are some folks here who can help ya to set it up for running with an emulator.

Hey I AM EMULATING!!!!!!!!!!! (or is it coopulating)

If everyting is right, it is a breeze, BUT.....

if everyting is not, then it is a BITCH!

but after you do the com port boogie
the aux card boogaloo and the
.cor file waltz, you are good to go.

It is much simpler the second time, but believe me I spent over 6 hours with the dinosaur puter I am using.
I set the monitor by the tv, it is more fun to watch the data stream then the tv!!! LOL

hey guess what! I have been without tv since BS and there is still:

NOTHING ON TV!!!!!!!

(but I am in the club!!!!!!)

For those that aren't emulating yet, Theres a file thats called emu set up, It will get your boot disk formatted, give you an autoexec, fix your time zone, check your comports, all in windows, very nice.

Typing *.exe commands are not really commands guys. That is just running programs. They are even telling you the flags to use, or giving you pre-written batch files.

If you really want to learn DOS. Type "HELP /?" at any DOS prompt. Here is every command, what it is used for, and examples of the nomenclature on use.(spelling?)

Now UNIX command lines. Like playing chess instead of checkers...

Just make sure you have a backup copy of all files in a separate directory or floppy. It is not like it going to blow up....
