OK, I have a 18" direct tv satelite with its plus reciever and HU card. I have the dish pointing in the correct direction and elevation. Here's how I wired it: Ran the RG6 cable from satelite in to house. Then just to see if i could pick up a siganl I used the grounding block as a coupling to connect the other RG6 cable and than ran that to my reciever and so forth. When i go to siganl meter I get no sigal, nothing It says "move dish 3 degrees" I have moved it all around and there is nothing blocking the line of sight for the siganl. The meter is set on 101W and transponder to 2. I live in int Northeast. What could be wrong. ANY IDEAS OR SUGGESTIONS.

Try connecting the IRD/receiver to the dish with the shortest piece of known-good RG/6 you can get away with. If you still are not getting signal, then the dish is not pointed precisely (most likely), the LNB is bad (not likely), you have a bad cable (very possible), or the IRD/receiver is bad (not likely).
I've never heard of an installation where the pointing parameters can be set according to the IRD-provided coordinates and not need some tweaking. The coordinates given by the IRD on the antenna setup screen do not take into account magnetic deviation or mounting hardware that is less-than perfectly plumb & level. The number provided are guidlines only to "get you into the neighborhood."
Search this forum for "The Box Method," to give you an idea on pointing procedure.
If you're (ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY) sure the dish is pointed correctly, then re-connectorize your cable and/or swap it out. Bad pointing and bad cable are #1 & #2 "no signal" culprits. There is a chance that the grounding block is flakey, try a standard "F-F" barrel connector instead.
If your total cable length is over 100 feet, you may need some additional stuff to make the system work well.
Good Luck

So, it is sometimes hard to find....I always adjust the dish very very slowly, and I usually get the signal in about 5 minutes.
My bet is that you do not have the dish pointed properly.
Good luck

make sure the white mark is on your elevation not the edge of the metal bracket....just a thought

eliminate the grounding block and go right to the ird for a test.
take a compass on the roof with you and make sure you are pointing s.e.
set your azimuth and elevation properly.
you can get the settings from ird.
mounting is level?
cable good? ck. the ends did they get damaged putting them through the wall.
lnb?is it good.
just take your time with step by step diagnosis do not panic.
hope this helps.
