I'm trying to help a friend
install the new RCA D**plus
system. I've never installed
this type before. Is it possible
to catch G3R instead of the 119
deg. sat? He's interested in
getting the EABC channels. If
so,how should I arrange the 2
lnbs to the three available
slots? Also, where can I find
info on getting the right skew
for my area? If I don't have all
the right equipment, what do I
need? Thanks for any advice you
guys could possibly give me.

The dish can, however you'll need a KU Band LNB. Also you'll need to put one LNB on the 119 position, and put the KU Band in the 101 position and point it differently

Since G3R is at 95 West.

What are the Az/El coordinates for G3R ?

The 3LNB dish has positions for the 101, 110, and 119 satellites, but there are two additional intermediate positions on the mount.

If you can find a dealer that carries the RCA DTC-100 HDTV/DSS-Plus set-top, look at his setup coordinates.

All you really need is the "TILT" value. To get the correct alignment for two (or three) sats, you *MUST* have the right tilt.

I played with it for a couple days. You can get one sat or the other with a jillion combinations of az/el/tilt....but to get both (or all three) the tilt setting has to be right. I finally broke down and found a dealer and checked out his settings.

Eyeball extrapolation (guessing) says the alternate positions on the mount should be good for sats at ~106 and ~114 West Longitude and still be able to catch one or two of the other DTV sats.

Remember that the elevation value drops to the Westward...from the 101 to the 119 satellite, there's a ~ seven degree elevation difference (that's what the tilt thing is all about...compensating for the different elevation values).

Sorry about the rambling...post the G3R coordinates and perhaps someone can give you better, specific, information.

FWIW

Thanks for the replies. This gives me a little more insight on the matter. The coordinates for G3R in my area is 142.7 az and 44.7. If turbo or anybody could help me with the tilt coordinates I'd appreciate it very much. I'll let you know how I fared.

Sorry for the mistake. My az/el here is 128.8/43.3.Please let me know if you guys could help me with the tilt angle so I can get G3R.Also,where can I find a Ku band lnb that will fit the new dual dish.Or do I have to make my own custom modifications to be able to connect it properly to the dish. Thanks again for any help.

My Q is what the heck do we get from this new sat besides st gov issue at the moment?
Sorry but, as posted before I been out in the back woods on vaca. I been playing with little furry and scaley critters.

Now one would think, that one would find some
{H} down in the woods. No Happin'!!!

BUT I CAME BACK WITH A CONCEPT, And A Plan,
done before, I'm sure, but not quite this away. And its liget. post Monday on results.

Turbo, need some more info from you. You said you have a Skyview system. How different is that from the RCA (para todos)Plus system that my friend got? The dish is 18x24 w/2 universal lnbs. I was able to finally get a signal from both the 101 and 119 birds by following the on screen instructions. I'm getting an 86 and 64 signal strength respectively. Yet I'm missing a lot of PPV and no local channels. Not to mention only a few of the standard Spanish channels. Will attaching a Ku band LNB be possible on that type of dish? Most Ku band LNBs that I've seen are not designed similarly to the RCA LNBs. Also, is the receiver capable of catching G3R altogether? Any ideas on how I can solve this problem would be great.

GS2, you said that I would need a tone multiswitch. Can you tell me what the difference is between that and the passive one that came with the system. If that's what's necessary to catch G3R then can you please recommend where I might find one. Thanks for the help.

Okay...Chill ;) I get the point =)

The Skyview is a bit different to the sense that it requires you to have a KU LNB for the G3R than a universal DirecTV LNB.

If your friend happens to have the Latin America setup, you can use his pointing, since both Satellite is located at 95 West.

BTW: you'll need to special mount the KU, what I did was using the neck of the LNB, and attached 2 metal bars around each LNB and secured it with a lock bolt.

GS2 is right, you'll need a 22kHz tone multiswitch

With Skyview in brankrupt protection and the deal with Echostar off one has to wonder about the future of Skyview.

Gunsmoke i think SkyView was bought by Kelly Broadcasting. Which could be a good thing.

Kelly broadcasting made a deal with Directv but I am not aware that it includes programming from Skyview.

Where did you see this.. is there a press release.?

I have a buddy that works for SkyView. He said Kelly is signing his checks. He does not know what will happen with the programming.

Turob2: You have send me the pic of your multiswitch not your LNB setup. Thats what i am asking for. It sounds interesting as how you have it setup on the dish.

Thanks
