Hi guys,
I brought a new Sony system from the US in hopes of receiving signal down here in Guatemala (Central America). I'm located at 14 N latitude and 90 W longitude. I have tried finding the satellite with no results. My dish is 18". Logic tells me that since i'm closer to the satellite, it would be better, right?. I have attached the little satellite signal finder and it gives me a steady on red light. Down in the receiver, i get 0% signal and 0% peak and the word "unlocked". I calculated an azimuth of 218.8 and 69.2 elevation to point to 101. Can anybody give me a clue of what's happening? Any response would be greatly appreciated.

I can't say 100%, but you may be too far south.

While the DTV (and all geostationary) satellites orbit above the equator, they are some 22,000 miles above it, so being closer to the equator doesn't really matter.

Also, DTV's birds' signals don't reach the entire western hemisphere. Far from it. They are focused mainly on the US. In fact, a few weeks ago they switched to a newer satellite with an even narrower (albeit more powerful) reception area. This even gave northern Canadians a weaker signal.

You could try a 30" dish. Also, the Spanish Language forum may have more info.

Compardre: Como esta?

Sounds Like you have a cable connect problem.
I've got sets working fine in Guadalahra!

Start with your lnb connect, staight line, to the reciever. Su siganal es buino, then throw the rest out and start over. Bad connects show up all the time! To damn many for me ! But I have to undo to many of other ppls f*** ups,

You are closer to the ecuator but you are far from the focus of the satellite. You need a 8 to 12 Ft dish to get the signal.
