I was wondering what I could do while I wait to get my dish out of layway to speed up the instlaition. Should I buy the kit (I will be getting a dual LNB) or buy cable instead? Is there anywhere I can read up on how to point the dish in the proper direction? Also what size cable would be correct for the job? I have just programed my first card and would be greatful for any help.

Just buy RG/6 cable, some connectors and some lag bolts...it'll be cheaper than buying the kit. For pointing information, go to lyngsat.com. They have a real nice, easy to use coordinate finder feature that should make your life a lot easier.

Why not just have it installed. DTV is offering free instalation for new customers. Once it's installed you can do whatever you please!

I did not know they were doing it for free. I will do just that. Would I have to sign up for a program package? Thanks alot PrivateGuy, and free, I can hardly wait.

I think they might require you sign up for the 19.99 plan. Either way it's installed for free and you save yourself the grief of getting on the roof and running the cable. Even if you are going to use a test card you still may want to keep a sub card around incase your test card ever goes down. The free install only covers a single receiver but if you have a second receiver to ad just ad it after the installer leaves. The installer will do all the hard work for you, like pointing the dish.
