I trust that you have a dual-LNB, or this is all moot.

What is the "signal strength" (a relative term, unique to each IRD) in the den? If it's low, you probably have a loose F-connector, bad cable, or excessively-long run. If in doubt, switch out your IRDs to deduce the source of your problem. At $35, a DSS signal strength meter can be invaluable.

The DSS spectrum is comprised of 32 transponders, each with an average of 6 programs. (There are other data types, like the 28-channel Music Choice service.) DSS is in possession and use of all 32 transponders at the 101 degree high-powered Ku-band orbital slot. Those are effectively limited by international agreement to 240 watts each (based on signal strength per square meter); unless they've changed recently, 8 of those (I don't know which) are still at only 120 watts.

On signal strength screen go through about 6 or 7 transponders sequentialy. If you see a pattern of odd transponders with no signal and even with signal then perhaps relay that switches voltage to LNB is defective. Of course it could be just opposite (odd xpnders good and even bad) and still indicate a defective relay in unit. IRD selects transponders automatically when you select channels
