View Full Version : I Hate Cats

My cat died last week. He got run over. I've always hated cats. Personally, i've always been a lifelong dog man (labs). Back in April, my then girlfriend's daughter took in the most pitiful looking stray cat. He was beat up pretty good. The pupil in his right eye looked like an egg that has just been cracked into a skillet. The vet said it probably happened in a fight. He judged the cat to be about a year old.
Anyway, my then girlfriend is my now wife. We became a family in nov., and that d*mn cat was part of the deal. He got into everything, he got all over the counters, he knocked stuff around so you couldn't find it, he poked a hole in the couch, he'd get in bed and wake you up at night if you forgot to close the door, and i won't even go into the horrors of the cat box.
But that little b*st*rd did other things too. He made me laugh, he'd curl up in my lap as i watched tv, he would play with me, he would brighten my day if i was feeling a little blue, and no matter how many times i would knock him around for scratching me, or walking through my plate of food, or for whatever, he never would hold a grudge.
I always thought cats were expendable, that dogs had worth and value. But let me tell you, seeing that cat in the road and picking up his lifeless little body was a very hard thing for me to do. I think i've been more devastated by his loss than either my wife or my stepdaughter. He is now resting peacefully under a tree at the edge of a small lake. I really miss that little guy. I love cats too (actually, all animals-cerberus can vouch for that) and call me sappy but I had to print this:
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth.
It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. The old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other, content and comfortable.
There is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on Earth. So each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up! The nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! And this one suddenly runs from the group!
You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then, together, you cross the Rainbow Bridge, never again to be separated.

That was very nice Mrs. C. I have 2 cats right now that were our children before we had a child... now @ 4 months old. The cats were always inside & one is declawed (I know it is inhumane, but he hooked me in the groin one day & hung from there, so the next he was scheduled to have them removed... I still have a scar.) but anyway, they are having a very tough time adjusting to being outside cats. I feel awful. My wife has become cold to the situation because they were starting to cause health problems for our baby. Of course nobody wants them, and I sure don't have the heart or will to take them to the pound. I am installing a pet door in my garage so that they can at least get in out of the weather & be safe, but what's a guy to do... I love animals too, and could not do anything to them. Besides the smart one of the 2 got an attitude and took a big dump in the baby bed... He still does not like the new addition to the family... just wait until the little one is big enough to chase em'. I see him giving them hell!

Thanks Mrs C,
Reading that brought a tear to my eye. I said a little prayer for Tiger after i buried him giving thanks for the joy he brought us and asking that he be taken to a better place, not really knowing if there is a pet heaven. Thanks to your post, i now know. Thank again.

zcubed...
That was a special piece that I used to read when I lost my best friend...CERBERUS...my 140+ pound rott. he was with me through some very tough times in my life...but he never left my side until cancer got the best of him. I believe the hardest I have ever done in my life was to hold him in my arms while the vet gave him his final shot.
Thanks Mrs C for sharing that with zcubed.

Yeah, i have a 12 yr. old yellow lab (Lucy). She is going strong, but since Tiger died, i have been thinking about the dreaded day when i will have to do something with Lucy. I know i shouldn't be thinking about it, but i do, and i just can't picture myself "taking her in." That will be tremendously hard. I'm sorry about CERBERUS. Pets are amazing how they comfort us in hard times. I hope i don't cross the Rainbow Bridge for a long, long time, but it's comforting to know its there.

man, greencup, you are just plain sick. This thread isn't bout' killin' cats & it sure isn't about eating them either... good god that is just plain sick. I'd hate to think that you have reproduced.

I saw the "his" reply and decided to just over look "his" ignorance. Sometimes it is BS here and sometimes it isn't. I honestly believe this is one of those times when zcubed wasn't joking:(

I am one of those people that says they don't like cats too.
We have had a little black butthole in the house for almost a year now, he does the same thing, jumps on you when you don't want him too, knocks stuff over, all of it. I have to say that as I am typing this I am crying, cause I can't think of what I would feel like if he got killed. I really feel for you. This silly ass little cat really keeps us laughing with his antics, well excuse me, I am going to go find him and hug him. I feel for you man.
quaddout. (ever seen a three hundred pound biker lovin on a kitty??)

I have to honestly admit that when I saw the thread title, I was going to jump all over you. Having read your message, my heart goes out to you.
I've had my combo Russian Blue/Tabby for over 12 years now, and to say the least, we have become attached. I can't imagine how I'll feel when she finally passes on (she's almost 14 now). When I first got her, I didn't mind cats, but I wasn't overly crazy about them. It's amazing how quickly they grow on a person.

Thanks everyone for your kind words of support and for your defense of this thread. I do like to joke around as much as the next person, sometimes inappropriately so, but unfortunately, this is not one of those times. Thanks again.

My parents had a couple of those ol worthless cats when I was growing up.
I remember when I was in high school I was going hunting on an extremely cold day, so I rummaged through my closet and retrieved my cold weather hunting attire. I had my jacket, pants, gloves and a quality toboggan. When I arrived in the field early in the morning and was all set up and ready for some serious hUnTeN, it was then I began to feel the extreme cold winter wind biting at me face. No problem I thought, I’ll just pull out my ol trusty blaze orange extreme Antarctica expedition grade toboggan and slip it over my head and face and warm up a little. When I pulled that Tobago over my face it was more than I could take. I was spinning, weaving and bobbing around while trying to maintain consciousness. I was disoriented. What’s my name I thought? My god, where the hell am I? Thank goodness my senses were able to tell me to put down the loaded gun.
It was then I realized our cats must have been using my Antartica expedition grade toboggan while it was being stored in my closet for target practice while spraying! I got a nose, mouth and face full of the stinkin stuff. Needless to say I ripped the toboggan off, threw it down and left it on the forest floor to rot into eternity. I spent the whole rest of the cold day with out face cover while I continuously spit and blew my nose trying to get rid of the wretched smell that had I permeated into my pores and membranes like some kind of Alien *like from the movie, except a stink alien*. It took days for the toxic odor to leave my body. No bath or harsh soap of any kind would rid my helpless body of the odor that had taken over.
I swore after that moment that I would NEVER, EVER own a cat for as long as I live.
Well, that was then…and this now.
Here I am some years later and we have 5 of the wonderful little kritters, but they DO NOT live in the house!
I love the little creatures to death and would be devastated if something happened to them.
I still go hunting. Even though the Kitties do not live inside, what do you bet that I still inspect and smell my toboggan before each and every hunting trip *just in case :)*.
Zcubed, I’m real sorry your little friend Tiger got run over.

The best thing about having a cat is the calming effect that they have on some humans. You can come in from work on the worst day, and just look at them sleeping, so peacefull, with that look on there face and it really helps to put things back in perspective. I'm sorry for your loss.
