I already hava single LNB unit installed and I have purchased another receiver and a dual LNB. When I switch the LNBs do I need to run the "ground or messanger" wire from both LNB connections or is just one ok?

Also, I have cable, and the way my house is set up it would be easier to just run the new receiver's line from the dish to the second cable line instead of drilling new holes for the sat line. I will need to put an "a/b" switch there though so I can switch from sat. to cable but, is this ok to do?

Thanks to those who reply :)

My humble opinion is that you should go to the extra trouble of adding the additional wire.

The existing (cable TV)wire is probably RG/59, the cable you need for the satellite run is RG/6 (the higher the quality, the better).

If the existing cable (still assuming rg59)is long enough, you may lose or drop transponders, lose signal in minor rainstorms, or may not work at all.

If you read back on the hardware & installers forum, there are many posts of failures relating to poor cable, in-line splitters killing transponders, etc... it's not worth the grief.

Put in some good splice-free cable from the start, you'll be glad later that you did.
