View Full Version : Signal Booster

I have a run of about 70 feet from the LNB to the IRD. From there I split out to a TV and a 35 foot run up to the front of the house and another splitter. One of the lines from that splitter goes another 60+ feet to another connection. The signal at the last connection (165+ feet) seems to be a bit more grainy and not as clear. At what point would you need to place a signal booster in the line?

First, the distance between the dish and the ird shouldn't be included in you total -- the ird creates the signal which goes to your tv's. Thus, if I understood your description right, you really have 95 feet of coax with two splitters. If you used good splitters and coax, and have good crimps on the connectors, all should be working ok as is. Since it isn't...

If you temporarily unplug the 60' cable from the splitter by the tv and connect it to the ird, hows the pic on the remote tv? If it's still grainey, I'd recheck your cable and connections. Also, try interchanging splitters - one could be marginal. If removing one of the splitters improves your signal, then before you invest in a new splitter or amp, does your tv has an s-video input? If so, I'd use it for the tv nearest the ird & take out the splitter there. Good luck. ...azjoe

Azjoe-

Thanks for the response. I connected a cable directly from a splitter at the IRD to the last TV in the chain and got a perfect picture. The cable from the last splitter to the last TV is what appears to be bad. Everything else in the chain is fine. Looks like I will be running new cable this weekend.
