I am posting this message in support of PGM's recent statement regarding the use of his freeware for dealer profit. I should state here that I am not a dealer, just an average Joe who is lucky to be emulating.
Dealers: You need to be paying attention to what PGM is saying! It is simple common sense (if not wise business sense) for you to share a percentage of your profits with the man who makes emulation possible. If it weren't for PGM, you wouldn't be selling emu equipment at all! Just think what would happen to your profits if PGM quits. Considering the fact that emulation has become extremely popular since BS, you would be foolish not to satisfy his very reasonable request. How many emu boards do you think you're going to sell if Dave spanks the current version of SLE and PGM refuses to update the software? Both the dealers and the endusers would be up ---- creek without a paddle!
I have purchased equipment from Vector Technologies as well as Whiteviper in order to get my system running. I am sure they turned a significant profit on what they sold me. I do not begrudge them a fair profit, but I do believe their is cash to spare in their coffers that could be used to satisfy PGM's wishes. You should realize that a small dent in your profit margin is a smart trade to ensure the continued supply of software necessary for your equipment to operate. This small concession on your part would ensure that this sector of your business continues to provide you reasonable profit for the foreseeable future.
For my sake (as well as all the other emu endusers out there) I hope you all make the right decision.
