Does anyone know about auto insurance? I have a daughter who will be driving in the next 3 or 4 months. If I were to add her to our policy, the policy would increase by $960.00 per policy term. Now, I was told that I don’t have to add her to the policy if she’s only using one of our cars from time to time. They said that it would be like me letting someone borrow my car for a day.
About 15 years ago I let my sister use one of my autos to take on a trip, and of course she has an accident. The insurance company wasn’t happy, but they paid for all damages.
I know I’m stretching it, but money is money and I rather have it remain in my pocket as long as possible.
Thanks in advance.

Most policies specifically exclude teenagers living in your home. Some don't check your policy very carefully & good luck.

Teenagers are a big hit no matter what - and yes, all policies will exclude them if they are living in your home.
Things that will help lower the policy as much as possible.
1. Good grades - discounts are given to good students since they have fewer accidents.
2. Driver Education - an approved drivers ed course will also reduce rates some.
3. Female - Boys are much better at killing themselves and others behind the wheel of a car than girls.
4. Type of car - a 1995 Honda Civic with liability only is a much better choice for a teen driver than a 2001 Mustang GT with full coverage.
5. Part time driver - Let your teen borrow your old Ford Fairmont a couple of times a week rather than giving them their own car to drive to school and work everyday.
6. Safety equipment - This one will not wash because things like ABS, dual air bags, and daytime running lights are only found on newer vehicles and the savings is marginal compared to the cost of insurance.
Lastly, be up front with your insurance company. A good agent will help you come up with a plan you and your teen can live with... and they have seen all the tricks in the book.

Thank you Parkerbink & 2gapa. Sounds like I got bogus information from that other guy. I knew someone at the Den would set it straight. Thanks
