I saw a post on this a while back, but searched and couldn't find it. What are the best alternatives to Napster? I tried Aimster and wasn't impressed.

I've had good luck with napigator. Its a little tricky at first but when you get it figured out, its just like napster (uses napsters software)

I've tried about 7 different ones but the ones I like best are Winmix, Rapigator, and BearShare. I just d-loaded SongSpy but haven't tried it yet. Hey Vic, if any you're suggesting are not mentioned here, could you PM me as well?
Thanks.

They are music sites and with no direct conflict but it's not a good thing to advertise without a banner..
I don't like a picture in my post.. you might mistake me for someone else..(no names mentioned)
Do I look like Tarzan flying through the JU@@le????:D... Vic

Hey,
Back before there even WAS a NAPSTER, we used mIRC to trade MP3 files. You can log onto a server, search for MP3 channels, then join the channel and watch the ads in the channel. Servers are usually up 24/7 and you can do keyword searches just like NAPSTER.
two caveats:
The gratification isn't instant: sometimes you go into a request que.
The interface isn't point and click, you have to type and navigate.

NAPIGATOR.
The latest version intigrates into the Napster browser and lets you search for non-Napster servers that are now more popular then the original servers since there is no filtering software on them. NG also has a message board that has a multitude of discussions on the latest ways to get mp3 files.
Do you have a buddy, or hotlist user that you want to swap songs with, but have an impossible time trying to find each other on Napster servers? With NG, you can both choose the exact server you want to use instead of being place on an "optimal" server chosen by Napster. And NG servers are indexed by ping, # of users, # of files, and server network.
To find it, add the usual info.

Thanks for posting all of the info on those "other" sites guys. I have tried to use Napster lately and I can barely complete a download without an error and when it does complete, the song has a skip...dont know if its just me or not. I even tried to do the same song again from a different source and it skipped in the same place. wierd.

I have a cable connection too and it works great. Some songs you can download in under 30 seconds if you get it from a good connection. Thanks for all of the input everyone.

I ordered a dishnet starband system today. I
can hardly wait to get it. I have a BAD phone
connection now. I watched them download 31 songs
today,at the same time, and did it in 53 seconds.
If I had not watched it,I would not believe it.

give iMesh a try works great and the more people using it the more files we have to share.

While I like Imesh a lot and think the selection of music is great, I have some gripes with the way their software was written. It can occasionally dump your memory and allow exploitation of that dump to someone intending to mess with your stuff. It can even dos your box. That's not to say that I don't use it, but hey, I have a pretty good firewall.
