On the front page of the discussion forum at the top it's right next to "activate your buddy list"... it says "change your avatar"

All point and click after that!

Click on the avatar link and then scroll down. You will see the box under the furnished avatars that explains how to put on a custom.

Martycone, according to a post from Rise, you dont get a custom avatar until you have at least 100 posts.
