This friday is the "Walk For Life" to raise money for cancer research. I walk with my best friends family (his father died 4 years ago, after a year long battle with cancer) The walk starts at 6:00 pm and goes until 7:00am the next day. My best friend and i walk the entire time in memory of his father. Its an emotional night, with cancer survivors and families that have lost loved ones all taking part. The most amazing part is the luminaries (which are bags that all have candels in them) that are lighted after dark. It leaves a lasting impression when you walk around and see all the lives that cancer has touched. If you get a chance take part in the event in your area (I belive its accross the country) it will be an event you will never forget. cookieman

Cookieman, you are a good man. Hope you have nice (dry) weather. Cancer scares the hell out of me. Sorry about your friends father.

My Father has terminal cancer and has been in a nursing home since August 19th. I would like to participate in something like this, but I have MS and could not endure the walk. ( I am stayin out of the chair as long as I can ) We have all been touched by cancer in some way, so for those that can, please participate. This is a great thing.

Many areas have events such as this. They are for a great cause and it helps in so many ways. We have one in my neighborhood on June 23rd. The walk is much shorter, only 5 miles. This one is being sponsored by a friend of mine who owns a bar. He lost one of his sisters about 3 months ago. After the walk all particpants are invited to a BBQ in the park across from the bar. The bar is donating the drinks, a local buther is donating the meets, and I will be donating my DJ services.

Raising money is only a portion of the good that these events do. You raise awareness and in many cases you help to raise the spirits of those who have lost loved ones or who continue to fight this disease.

If you ever get the chance to participate in an event like this I promise you, you will feel very very good about it!

Well the cancer walk was a complete sucess. It seemed to be harder to do this year (we hit 90 degrees at the start of the walk) My friend and I completed the walk (have the blisters to prove it) It was a very emotional night. My heart was heavy as I looked at all the luminaries in honor of those who lost the battle to cancer. When you see pictures of the children who died to cancer you know that a cure can not come soon enough! I have two young kids (7months and 5 years old) and I cannont imagine losing one of them to cancer. Thanks for the words of support! If you get a chance to do something like this event, you will get more out of the event then what you put into it!
