Gigz,
I would be willing to try it out if I knew for sure that some of Europes Sats would reach the US. There are some sites that I found regarding the hacking of European Sats.

Im trying to find out if the HotBird 1-5 Sattelites will reach the Northern US. Those Sat's have A ton of channels! Accoring to Lyngsat, it might, just might work.... But Ill have to look into it!!
Later,
Chip

As the next step, I see that the Hotbird Birds have MAAAAAAAAANY chanels! It would be nice to hit one of these baby's with existing equiptment. (Di*h and D*s). It appears tha anyone on the East coast of N america could hit em with no problem, Even if we had to go to 24 inches. IF anyone has info on what we need to hit these baby's, please post up or email.

Thanks!

24 inches? Try a 24 feet dish and your chance
is still slim and none.

The European satellites' footprints do NOT cover North America. The furthest it can go is Greenland. I've investigated in this matter. In North America, the only place that you can see the European sats (i.e. above the horizon) is St. Johns in Eastern Canada. The rest of the continent doesn't even see the sats (i.e. below the horizon). Even in St. Johns, the elevation is around 5 degrees.

That's where you can see the bird, but it doesn't mean you can get the signal, because it's still out of the footprint. In theory, you may be able to catch these birds with a gigantic dish, e.g. 100'. It's more practical to move to Europe if you want to see the Hotbirds.
