Laundry card hack

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried hacking those laundry smart cards that seem to be in use at just about every college and university?? "Caldwell & Gregory" seems to be the main vendor for the systems.

For those unfamiliar, lots of laundry room washer/driers are now equipped with smart card reader/writers (instead of coin slots) that read and subtract money deposited on smart cards by a "value adding" machine...

Are they true smart cards?? Or are they mag stripe cards??
