Although the "evidence" they refer to it at its best questionable, the fact remains that they are not fooling around anymore and are forced to try and litigate against end-users as a means of sending a message out to combat their out of control piracy problem

How is directv going to prove that the devices that were purchased are "signal theft" devices? As far as I know both iso programmers and emulators can be used for perfectly legal reasons. Therefor the mere possession of them is not a crime. This would mean that directv would have to prove that every single person that they want to sue are using the devices for illegal purposes. These letters look like they are just a highly publicized scare tactic designed to get people give money to directv.

i may be old fashioned but,dont you need some sort of proof before suing someone for something.My reply to this letter would read as follows;"I thought that thing i purchashed was for playing video games. What is direct tv, an electronics store?"then i would put my stuff away for a while and see what happened.What are they going to do break down your door?Even if they had proof you bought the card or programmer,could they prove you knew what it was for or used it for that matter ?I dont think so .I agree SCARE TACTIC

It the States, civil litigation is at an all time high. We even have criminals, suing their victims in some cases. One such case come to mind where a thief was injured while in the process of "cleaning out a house"

I believe that the thief was successful on the grounds that the design of the house represented a danger to navigation.

Civil proceedings and criminal ones are very different. All you need to do is watch an issue of the peoples court to see that some of the cases are utterly ridiclous

We all know anyone can sue anybody, however in DTV's case I'd say they're pissing up a rope and so would my attorny.

The only way they would come up with a case is if you aswer there letter and incriminate yourself which would be pure stupidity on your part.

All I can say is that you have the right to keep silent and I would suggest that you do so.

I sort of try to keep up on what they say, I post REAL letters and when I get a copy of their LOSING California ruling (which I will get soon) I will post that too. Unfortunately LIARS like Legal-Dave (DirecTV® lawyer probably) have absolutely NO DOCUMENTATION to backup what they say. In fact he claims he LOST and win or LOSE you always get a copy of the ruling. Why does he NOT post it?

Bye the way, I won too in court in Canada against 10 criminal charges and 86 proceeds of crime charges (shucks forgot the crime is needed Government) and the ruling is posted as well as some Newspaper articles including 2 front page stories. The ruling is here at:
