Ha Ha, I found out that Hot Wheels is offering online exclusives at there website, right now, there is a 4 car set that they are letting out one at a time. you can buy 5 of them, they are $14.99 each, and they are going for anywhere from $28.00 to $50.00 each on Ebay! HA HA LOL LOL.
I bought my 5!!! It's not a windfall, but every $100.00 counts! What a blast!! A friend turned me onto it. I can't understand why something that you can get for $15.00 goes for $40.00, but hey, I ain't complainin!! If I were you, I would go get my quota! The one that is selling right now is the "rocket oil" van, its a Harley Davidson painted special edition, the cheapest I saw on ebay is about $26.00 and they will be sold out soon! the ones that are already sold out go for close to $50.00 every time, and next year you can bet they will go for well over that. five of them with shipping is $83.70. They will easily go for $150.00 sold separately, $250.00 if you wait a while. Like I said, it ain't a bunch, but every little bit counts doesn't it??
He He, go get em!! (and they will sell out faster that way) the issue is limited to 10,000, which is nothing compared to the number of people looking for them!!

Speaking of deals of quad, I found a school bus. It's a 1983 International 72 passenger. The guy said the motor has just been rebuilt. He doesn't know what kind of engine it is. It is a gasoline with auto. trans. He said the bus is in great shape and runs good too. The inspection sticker is still current. He wants $1800 for it. Not as good of a deal as what you found, but I'm wondering if it still might be worthwhile.

I'm following in your foot-steps quad. I'm thinking about the bus, and I just got through ordering my 5 harley oil pan cars.:D

That is about top dollar for that year bus. You might get a little more for it. The diesels sell a bit better, but at least you have the auto trans in there. I would think twice about it. Are you trying to resell it?? The price isn't too bad if you want to keep it, but 2,000 or 2,200 is about all it'll bring. How many miles??
The Harley rocket oil vans kick ass though, Keep them until they sell out on the net and I bet they will all top $40.00 :D
The Internet III with the gold sorjourner for $60.00 isn't bad either, the bus will go for about $50 and the sojourner should top $25.00. but time will make them worth more. I'll keep my eyes open for more deals and pass them along.

Thanks Quad. Yeah, I think I'll pass on the bus, but I've been looking into the Hot Wheels cars on ebay. Some of those things are going for high dollars. It makes me wish I still had some of my old Hot Wheels cars. One guy just listed his whole collection. It's at $16.00 right now, but there's still like 9 days left, so I'm sure it will go up. Anyway thanks for the tip!
I think I'll hold onto my HD oil vans for a while. I may list three of them and then hold the other two for a year or so and see what happens.

Fun, ain't it! Just saw a couple of the earlier ones, #2, which is the 56 ford truck, go for $40.00 and more, uh.....well.....I just bought the first one, its a 38 ford Cab Over hauler. I paid $51.00, but I got it as a present for a friend, so I am contributing to the prices, it would have gone for $50 if I hadn't bid, so the price support is definately there, I would expect a whole unopened set to go for $500 to $600 in a year or two. A single unopened could go for $100 easily, but definately over $50 as time goes on. Keep your eye out for the "Treasure Hunt" series in the stores, 99 cents could get you a quick $20-$30. Also, keep an eye out for the "Toy Fair" editions, they were handouts at toy fairs, and are very limited, any purchase under $25 or so, will double your money on those.
If you want something else to look for in your area, go to local government auctions, like county or city, look for police belts, holsters, Fire department stuff like, SCBA equipt. Helmets, turnouts, handheld radios, and the like. For example.... I bought 50, new in box SCBA masks for $90.00 and have almost sold them all for $20.00 each. You do the math, it has taken me about two months of throwing them in on my auctions now and then. We bought a big box full of Riot helmets from the state of Ohio, for about $50.00. Hell, the first one sold for $35.00 and they have gone from $19 to $55.00 each. I think we have sold about 20 of them so far, maybe more! Radar units sell well, I could go on and on...... Universities, State, County, City.....these are the best for the big deals on used technology. Most people at the auctions are looking for "normal" items....cameras, laptops, radios....stuff they know something about. The key is to look for the off the wall stuff, items that were very expensive when new, usually carry a 5% to 10% value, and can be had for 1% or 2% of there original cost. Once I bought an old, unworking spectrum analyzer for $5.00. The tag on it showed the government paid $23,000.00 for it! I got $200.00 and was tickled to death, as was the buyer, he needed one little part, I don't even remember what it was, that part was going to cost him much more than the $230.00 he paid (With shipping)And there was the time I got the SCBA units, 15 complete Survivairs, they were late model, I bought them for less than $200.00! Got more than $5000.00 out of them. Really, it is an art, but it can be learned, you have to go out on a limb now and then (anyone need any 277 volt flourescent lights?? LOL) but I haven't been stuck with too much stuff, and I pay less than $100 for almost everything I buy, usually less than $20.00. Its tons of fun, and I don't have to do anything else. I even took a partner who does all the shipping, he runs the whole warehouse (now a 4000 Sq. Ft. one) Uh....by the way, I went to an old mattress factory that had downsized considerably, and rented 4000 square feet, completely secure, 24-7 security guard, third floor, but we have a freight elevator. I only pay $300 a month for the space!!! I don't need the entire 4000 feet right now, so I am subletting three small areas to small businesses who have equipment to store long term. They save money on storage, and my rent is now almost FREE.....ha ha.....gotta love this world! I work about 2 or 3 hours a day, and that is mostly computer time, (I guess alot of it isn't work, as here I am!!) About 2 auctions or less a week, and the partner now does half of those. HA! Anybody can do it! It's simple!
Anyway, I have rambled enough!
Ha, Ha, what a blast!!!

Yeah, I'm going to an auction tomorrow morning. They're selling home electronics including tv's, camcorders, appliances, etc. But, what caught my eye is: SATELLITE SYSTEMS. Maybe virgin h cards? Old ird's? The ad says: "These items are shelf pulls, overstocks, and abandoned items from several large retail chain stores." I did call them, and they are dtv systems. Maybe I'll find some bargains. There is a certain amount of fun to all of this. I can't wait!!!

Well, I went to the auction, and their satellite equipment was CRAP!!! They had 15 receivers (various brands) and NO CARDS!!! NOT A SINGLE CARD!!! They also had a single lnb dish and a dual lnb dish. I figured no one would bid on them, so I offered $1.00, then some bitch:) started bidding me. I bailed out at $10.00, and then someone else jumped in, and the bitch prevailed in the end at $16.00 (I hope the lnb's are faulty!) No, just kidding, it was fair game. But, I did pick up three power inverters for $8.00 (140watt, 160 watt, & 300 watt). At radio shack the 140 watt goes for $100 and the 300 goes for $150!!! I guess the 160 is somewhere in the middle. I also got a Rockford Fosgate punch 100 for $6.00 and a Clarion 200 watt amp for $5.00. I dont know if they work though.
And speaking of bargains -- Radio shack is running a special on wally worlds for $49.99 through august. Might be worth a try, but I didn't have any luck. They were insistent that a contract had to be signed, even when I said they were for gifts -- they told me to bring that person in or either get gift certificates. Maybe ya'll will find more sympathetic employees?

I knew you were doing this as a full time bus. I sat back until I was sure your were making money at this and not just accumulating a bunch of junk that you would end up giving away to charity. The minute that I thought this was a successful business I was going to talk to you about franchising it (selling your knowledge). Low and behold you ended up giving it away for free. LOL
All kidding aside, you still have to know what you are doing, it's not as easy as you make it. Glad you are doing well, and I mean that.

Al, I have been doing it for over a year and a half now. I make plenty of money, yes it is easy. I could show anyone how to do it. The Hot wheels that you just missed out on are now going for over $40 and this will rise quickly, as soon as the winter editions come out, SNAP THEM UP!! get your friends to snap them up, get as many as possible, it is money in the bank. Quad gauranteed. I have "given" the secret away to so many people I can't count them, but guess what? NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM DO IT!!!!! It is as simple as follow through, and guess what? I don't kiss a single ass, EVER!!! I don't think it is franchisable, but I could sure write a book on the ins and outs! I just spent the last four hours relating my many incredible deals to a few of my close friends at a party, and you know what their reactions were?? "I could never do that" and that is what they will get! Nothing. Negativity gets negative results.
I might have a natural talent for it, but I can teach folk. When we started, My partner couldn't get the hang of it, but I kept buying and showing him examples, now he is getting better, whilst I partied today, he was in Louisville buying, he got three good deals, a bad auction actually, he bought a piece of Kitchen equipt, (buffalo chopper) for $150.00 it'll sell for $400-$500, a printer that goes for $200-$300 for $35.00 and a sewing machine that goes for $100 or so for $10.00, so I made about $300 or so on my day off, without doing a thing. Believe me, it is learnable and it is easy, period.
Zcubed, sounds like you rocked!! Was the price on the recievers for all of them?? or just for choice?? Cause if you passed at $16.00 for all of them, then you passed on several hundred dollars profit! Let me know, I am curious. They recievers sell very well on ebay, $20 to $50 each.
I think you are on your way, you sound like a cheapskate!!! and that my friend is the name of the game!!!

Hey quad, just a sugggestion on those 277 volt light bulbs. Call up local electrical contractors, especially commercial electrical contractors. Quad, the $16.00 was only for one single lnb dish and one dual lnb dish. The single was new, the dual has been ripped off of someone's roof. That deal didn't include any receivers.
The ad was worded as portraying all the merchandise as "overstocks" and surplus inventory. I thought that would mean everything being sold was new in boxes. NOT! Most everything there came from Best Buy. Apparently, it was equipment that people had bought, and it later broke, so they took it to best buy to be repaired, and it turned out that it was more expensive to repair the items than to just buy new ones, so the people just left it there, and that's how it ended up as "surplus inventory." The guys running the auction just bought all this crap from best buy, and were just auctioning it off. Most of the items had large orange stickers on them, that were put on there by the best buy repair dept. The stickers would say stuff like: "Cost of repair exceeds cost of replacement." "Defective board inside." "Defective circuits." ETC...
All the irds were like that. No cards, no dish, no remote, no manual -- just orange tags saying "defective." I really don't know what they sold for, because I had lost interest in them by the time the bidding started on them. I only wanted the cards. All the receivers were 5th gen. (I think). They also had about 50 tv's from 13in. to 60in. Some of them had broken screens, broken tubes, etc. One guy paid $180.00 for a batch of 5 of them.
The power inverters I bought were open items, but I tested all of them when I got home, and they all work. I did a search for them on ebay, but nothing was returned. The clarion amp had something lose in it. I opened it up, and there's some broken clips in there. I've tried to find replacements at radio shack and home depot, but no luck so far. I don't know if it will work even with the new clips. I don't know if the rockford works either. It appears to be in good shape, though. All of the stuff I bought originally came from best buy, but none of the items had the orange stickers on them. If the amps work, I'm planning on sticking them in my old blazer. I may give ebay a try with the inverters.

I think Quad stated that they were flourescent light bulbs and if he is talking about the standard tubes they are not rated by voltage they will work on 277 or 110 because the output is determined by the ballast, that used to be a little trick we would pull on 1st year apprentices we would send them after lamps and when they got back we would tell them that these are 110 volt and we need 277 and then they would go back and look thru the boxes and finally give up and ask someone who would usually let them in on the gag...

Hey quad. Guaranteed that if you write a little manual, nothing too fancy, just something you could do up on your comp, then get it printed at Kinko's or somewhere, you could make a ton of $$ with it in mail order. Throw out little ads in papers, ebay, etc etc and I bet you they would sell like hotcakes. Hell, I'd pay $10 for your info, and I bet there's around 250,000 other people that would too. Probably more than that. At $10 a pop, that's a decent return, if you take out your advertising costs. Hey, you write a little manual on some of you secrets and I'll be your first customer. :D Something else to think about.

One other thing. I kinda been getting into it, so I've been up to Toys R US and Target. You can buy Hot Wheels for $0.99 at Toys and $0.77 at Target!!! But, don't make the mistake I did. I loaded up on them thinking that every one i picked up must have value. At least a couple of bucks. NOT! Sometimes they sell like 4 of the ones I paid 99 cents for for 99 cents. Some lady was there who is a collector. I ended spending about 20 minutes talking to her about it. She said she has 6,000 of them, and doesn't sell them. She said that the more valuable ones are "variations." For example different numbers of spokes on the wheels or different colored interiors. She showed some to me, but I couldn't really understand it. She also said that mustangs seem to be especially popular. It's kind of fun, but it won't make you rich.

Okay, one last thing, and then I'll stop. If you happen to see a hot wheels display somewhere, look for a "Turbo Taxi." There's 4 different ones in the set. Look for the yellow one. Most of the yellow ones come with one of those "porthole windows" that used to be on old cars, BUT there's a few of them that don't have the porthole. That's the one you want. Don't bother with the yellow ones with the porthole, and don't bother with the other turbo taxi's. Just look for a yellow one WITHOUT a porthole. The lady told me about it, and I checked on ebay today, and I saw one for $40.00.

They all have the buy it now feature ($50.00) One more sale and the other three are FREE. (plus a little) Oh, yeah, I forgot, my partner got five so we actually will have a total of 10 going on.
Hint of the hour:
You have to have 10 positive feedbacks to list an item with the Buy it Now feature, so if you are going to start selling on ebay, it is a good idea to do a little shopping first to get your feedback rating up there. Also to lose the little "shades" by your name you have to have been a member of ebay for at least 30 days, so...... sign up and get a bargain on something you would be buying anyway, there are really good deals available if you shop. Inkjet cartridges for example. (or as Zcubed will attest, LOL) you can get non-collectible toys, like regular Hotwheels (LOL again) for less than retail.

How'd ya make out today, quad?
Here's what I did:
2 army medical stretchers
2 enamel irrigator tins
2 lumbar puntcure trays
1 serilizing/disinfecting tray system
1 laboratory counter
1 sedimentation tube rack
12 chemical heating pads
1 physio control charge pack
1 blood mixer
1 hack saw
I took guesses on most of this stuff. I don't even know what a lot of it is! I just saw the enamel irrigator on ebay. Mine are in MUCH better shape than the one that sold on ebay. Mine are in mint condition, and one of them is still sealed in the original box.
Shipping:
Is it considered bad BS to add a dollar or two to the shipping charge? Sort of like a handling fee. Also, how do you figure the charges? Do you have to take all your stuff somewhere and get the price, or can you just get a price schedule and figure it out yourself? USPS? FedEx? UPS?

For shipping, go to iship.com, you will need package weight, zip code to and from, package dimensions, it'll give you prices from all the big shippers, pretty neat. PACK WELL!!!, Take clear pictures, and keep them rather small so they load quickly.
We bought a Freon recovery system, and recycle system, should bring about $1000 total, spent $145 on it. GREAT SHAPE!! I bought a really nice LaserFax machine for my personal use (also a copier) for $4.00 and got a bunch of miscellaneous stuff, spent about 27.00 total at mine, and my partner went to another and spent $180 total. Total spent about $210.00 total return estimate...hmmmm. conservatively.........$1300 or so, not great, but fine, as I have another tomorrow, and tuesday and wednesday and two GREAT ones for next weekend. so...... its a good week.
Medical equipment is getting better, antiques sell well, be careful on the rest, how much did you spend???? old stuff or new stuff???? I made a ton on some antique instruments one time. Sounds like you are getting the hang!!!1
Holler for more help if needed!
Oh yeah, I picked up a real nice little personal laser printer for $2.00
"1 serilizing/disinfecting tray system "
Is this an autoclave??? if so , and it works, that rocks.
You can get away with a buck or two, try not to make it a habit if the items are easy to pack, large items you can get away with $5-$15 if they are hard to pack, but watch it, and try to mention it in the ad, alot of people do charge a buck or two, it depends on the bidder. if someone bitches, waive the fee. its worth it in the long run, for feedback.
Remember Priority boxes and priority tape are FREE at most post offices

2 army medical stretchers................(2x$10=20)

1 laboratory counter.....................(included)

12 chemical heating pads.................(12x$1=12)
1 physio control charge pack.............(included)
1 blood mixer............................(included)
1 hack saw..................................($1.00)
..............(everything with included = $6 total)
......................Total price with tax: $62.98
The sterilizing tray doesn't have a motor. It's just a plastic tray with a lid with a smaller tray inside. The tray inside has holes in the bottom of it. On the lid it has in parenthesis (Do not steam autoclave). The brand is Cidex. If I can't sell it, it would make a pretty good storage box. Maybe I can put my Hot Wheels rejects in there!:D
The blood mixer has a motor, and it works. The charge pack has a motor and a power chord and a serial cable coming out of it. I plugged in the power, but didn't get anything. The heat pads are individually wrapped. I haven't opened one yet. I did a google search on them, and I saw prices form $5 to $80 on them. You put water on them and that reacts with the chemical and they heat up. They're reusable, too.
Thanks for the shipping tip! The stretchers are gonna be a bitch to ship. They're like 8ft. long, and they're heavy. I guess I'm gonna have to get a scale now.

Over the weekend, My partner bought a complete, two unit R12 (freon) recycling unit, and the A/C service unit to go with, complete and working for $135.00. I have garages around here dying to pay me $750 for it, but I don't know what to do yet, so I am going to check it out better, no use in throwing money away. I bought a $1200 Laser Fax/copy machine, +phone. it killed me, but I needed one, I paid $4 bucks for it, and it works GREAT. I also bought a Xerox Workcentre 450cp color scanner/fax/printer/copier, but it has feed problems. and damn, I paid $2.00 for it, I feel gipped! LOL. I got a few other odds and ends, including a neat little 8 inch IBM monitor, just perfect for the house calls to service friends.....uh.......well......lets just say it is easier to carry this tiny little monitor to hook up to thier computers that they keep by their tvs. It's tiny, I splurged and gave $10.00 for it, but hey I don't mind paying for tools. Some other odds and ends, it wasn't a great weekend, I probably only made 3 or four hundred.
Oh,,,,, by the way, between my partner and I, I have sold 6 of the rocket trucks on ebay since I got them the other day, and have an average price of $41.00 right now after the 6, hmmmmmm, not bad for $16.42 dollar trucks.

I've never seen any good electronic equipment. Most of the printers I've seen are dot matrix. I try to eavesdrop on what other people say about the stuff. It seems that the general consensus is that most of the computers usually don't work, and that you never know what's been done to the insides. But, you can usually get a whole pallet or two of them for just a few bucks.
I haven't listed my rocket oils yet. I weighed one at the post office, and it said it would cost $1.72 to mail it. Most auctions show a 3-4 dollar shipping charge.
quaddawg
August 14th, 2001, 08:35 AM
You should send the Rocket oils Priority mail with delivery confirmation, that is $3.90 anywhere in the United States. Almost all dealers do that with the small stuff, otherwise it can take forever to arrive,
NO DOT MATRIX NEVER, I have been paid for hauling them off.
As far as printers, look for Hewlett packard lasers, Laserjet 4's and up, NEVER II's or III's a Laserjet 4 in need of repair, will still bring 75 to 100 bucks and most are easy to repair. stay away from the big "si" printers, as they cost a mint to ship. The rocket oils are down a bit now, I have sold 6, and got an average of $41.00. I am waiting till the market goes back up to list the rest.
Fireman equip. Police equip. Restaurant stuff. stay waway from computers, unless they are good emu computers!!! (LOL)
you find your niche, keep hammering, and keep using the completed auctions on ebay to get a feel for what is selling. Telephone systems, if they are modern, do well. Stay away from anyting electronic if it didn't cost over $1000 new. just general guidelines, but a good rule of thumb,.....hmmmmm lesseee...
Fishing stuff goes well
Microphones, the older the better
ANY SCBA stuff, don't pay too much, and research
Camera equip, both modern and collectible, but be careful
ANtiques are great, but outside of my expertise
you'll find more and more things that do well, just keep plugging along.

Hey Quad,
All of this stuff you have posted is very interesting. I even got in on the Hotwheels stuff. Although, I missed out on Rocket Oil, I got the Penske VW's. So I'll see how that goes. Also, I happened to be one of the first 5000 registered, so I am eligible for that Rodger Dodger, sweet. Anyways, what kind and how often are the auctions held where you are?
I am in the NE, in a medium sized city, and as far as I know there is only one Sheriff's auction a year. BTW, great thread!

I go to at least 2 or 3 auctions a week, Universities, State, Local, bankrupcies, repossessions, estates, you name it. Get in the yellow pages for your area and look up auctioneers, call them all and request to be put on their mailing lists, you'll be surprised how many are close enough to drive to. Preview them if you can, the day before or sooner, take notes, and go home and search completed auctions on ebay. Bid up to a third or half of the lowest comparable bid. Take chances too, if it looks expensive, it probably brings a good penny, you will find so many surprises, you will find an area that you will be right at home in.
I saw a 1998 John Deere backhoe/loader (cab style) go for $22,000 saturday, I just sat there with my mouth open. The lowest priced matching model I found anywhere on the net or local (not ebay for that!!) was 48K, damn, I let another slip by! Sometimes you just can't believe the prices!!
Universities, banks, Schools, all have auctions, just do some digging, one thing in common is that they use auctioneers, and they would LOVE to put you on their mailing lists! CALL THEM!!!
I have a lot more to say, but I can't tell all my secrets at once!!!
By the way, I predict the Penske VW's will bottom out for awhile around $15.00, hold on to them till the promotion is over, and collect the other Internet Buses, (same body different paint) getem on Ebay, if you can. A set of variations of this racing bus will go through the roof!
I have now sold 7 Rocket oils, lowest was $36, highest $50, average is still over $41.00 I have three left. One for my partners set of all four, one for my set of four, and one more to sell when they go over $60. Get ALL the Winter releases you can, as soon as you can. It will be a Bike, I just don't know which one. I predict, and you can hold me to it. That by next winter, a set of all four unopened will top $400, maybe much more.
I have one more hint on the hotwheels, There is a set of four "legends of speed" that sell for $120 on Hotwheels.com Neat cars, but go to Ebay and you can get the set for $30 or $35. I did, it might take a while to go up, but I still say that set will be a winner in a year or two, weird how somethings are cheaper on Ebay and some are higher, do your research and don't assume anything. Ebay's completed auctions are the absolute best indication of what something is worth. With a little practice, you can find almost anything! (don't forget, amazon and Yahoo have auctions too!)
Tip of the Hour:
When searching for something you want a deal on, try misspelling the search terms, I have found some bargains that were listed wrong, and noone saw them but me! I bought a Leatherman tool for a penny one time!!!, just the other day I saw someone spell Harley Davidson, Davison, and it happens all the time!!!
Go, search and enjoy!!!

Here's my auction experience:
I've been to two so far. They were two different auctions in two different cities with two different auctioneering staffs. At each one, they screwed up my purchases. You have to really watch them. At one auction, they marked the wrong items for me. At the other auction, they double charged me on an item. Don't get me wrong, it was an honest mistake, and they were very willing to correct it, but it does take a little time to get it all sorted out. Be sure to write down what you won when you win it, and then compare that to what they credit you with when you check out.

Another question for the ebay guru --
Is there anything you can do when you post positive feedback about someone, but they won't do the same for you. The first time I used ebay, I bought a $400 looped h card. The guy had his money within 30 minutes of the auction's close. As soon as my package arrived, I posted positive feedback, which is what he promised to do for me, too. He never did. I emailed him a couple of times, and he always apologized, and said he would do it, but he never did. It's too late to do anything about it now, but is this type of thing very common on ebay?
It sucks that you have to have 10 feedbacks before being able to post "Buy it now," so every feedback counts. I've resorted to buying the cheapest hot wheels cars I can find just to get the feedback. I just bought 4 for $3.74 (four different auctions) -- $3.00 of it is for shipping!

OK, hint two of the hour.
Go to staples and get some avery bubblejet (or laser) labels, print a bunch with your name on them leave space for a price, put your name and phone number and bid price on them. as soon as the bid is won, walk up and put the sticker on an inconspicuous spot on the item. It helps, and keep an eye on your purchases, they are known to walk away!
Listen intently to the caller, and make sure he repeats the price, quantity and bidder number to the clerk, don't be afraid to interrupt the auction, its your money, and once they see you are a repeat customer, they won't mind as much, don't be intimidated by the other bidders or the staff, YOU are the reason they have jobs! I hate to say it, but 90% of all auctioneer companies are staffed by uneducated buffoons, I don't know why, but its a fact. Half the time they don't even know what they are auctioning. We don't want that to change though, as that is one reason I do so well, I KNOW what the stuff is that I am buying, even when the auctioneer doesn't. DON'T tell them what it is, don't act too interested, don't open the bidding. If you do open the bidding, open it for some ridiculous low price. then wait till the bidding slows before you jump back in. Get to your limit and say NO! loudly, so they don't waste time trying to get you to bid again. Know what you will pay and NEVER go over that amount. All the local auctioneers know me, and know what I buy and they know when I stop bidding , I am done, they appreciate me helping the auction to move quickly.

Vehicle Auctions
How do these work? Is there a lowest limit, or could they start at $1.00?
On the day of the first auction I went to, there was also another auction in a different town that had some cars and trucks. I picked my auction, but then I went by the other one when I got bored with the one I was at. By the time I got there, they had finished with the vehicles. I was told that they didn't sell any of the trucks. I wonder why? Couldn't somebody have offered $10.00, or is there a lowest limit?

As far as Feedback goes, it SUCKS.
Never leave feedback till the person you are dealing with leaves it. I know that sounds harsh, but it works. You have no recourse with getting ebay to do ANYTHING with feedback, but they are almost ready to change the rules. Who knows what they will do next, retaliatory feedback is a big problem
As an example, I have left 1225 feedbacks for people ( and I don't always) and have only recieved 660 in return. (560 count, as I have repeat customers) so.... you can count on roughly half of your sales to get you feedback.
Hint #3 of the hour, I tend to avoid buying items from people with HUGE amounts of feedback, that usually means that they are so busy you might get poor service. By huge I mean 5 or six thousand, (I saw one guy with over 20,000 positive points, and looking closer, he had about 500 negatives!!!) PAY ATTENTION,,
Check your pm, is the ZCUBED on ebay you???

Okay! It's cool. You can bid on zcubed auctions if you want, but do remember that the zcubed on ebay is not me. I created my zcubed nic in Aug. of 2000 when i joined the pirate's den. The name means absolutely nothing. It is just a play on letters from my original aol screen name that I originated years ago, and that name was just a nonsense word i came up with because i got so frustrated trying to create a screen name. EVERY clever name i came up with was taken, so I just started entering letters. The resulting name had three z's in it, so when I first registered here, I just took those 3 z's, or zcubed.:D
The zcubed nic on ebay was created in Oct. of 1999, before my zcubed. So, apparently, there IS someone who thinks like me!!!

Ok. on the weekend I got the folowing:
It wasn't a great weekend, but it was worthwhile, If any of you that are following the thread want to, use this list to practice, go to ebay and try to search them like you were looking at an auction listing, I will tell you what I paid, and you tell me about how I did.
1) Floor buffer, older, but works fine 17 inch------$25.00
2) K55 Dopler Radar, complete with remote-----------$55.00
3) K55 Dopler Radar, complete with remote-----------$55.00
4) Ridgid Model 300 Pipe threader with stand-------$450.00
5) 20 miller safety harnesses (full body)one lot---$200.00
6) 4 Maxon UHF radios 6 channel sp5450,with chargers$50.00
7) Gang charger for Motorola radios,----------------$1.00
8) assorted box of maxon and motorola chargers-------$5.00
9) 10 new Hardhats fibermetal brand-----------------$25.00
One of these wasn't a good deal at all, the rest should be fine, one or two are killer
Just to let you know, the condition on the safety harnesses are good. And several have the EZ stop decelerator lanyards.
I think there are actually 24 , but I am allowing for some to be messed up with the above count. Now..... get to work, this is your homework.
Thats about it, not a great weekend, but I also made some contacts, so it was worth the 6 or seven hours I spent altogether. I'll list them this week with some other stuff we have lying around, the auctions will last seven days.
I also bought this real cool fiberglass rescue scow, I bought this for towing behing the quads this winter, it is basically a 7 foot long fiberglass sled with composite runners on the bottom, and canvas sides for securing your patient. It is too cool! I could probably sell it, but I paid too much for it, just because I wanted it for sledding and pulling the pup behind the quad! It's cool, but I gave $60.00 for it! Only one guy other than me wanted it, and if he wasn't there, I would have gotten it for $10.00`!! He came up to me and asked me if I would take $70 for it after the sale was over. He is walking into the artic circle soon to go Caribou hunting, he already had three of them, but wanted another, I turned him down, I think it'll be a blast in the winter! I also bought a real nice desk chair for a friend, for $10.00, it is a $150 dollar chair. I met several wholesalers, some can sell me stuff, and some will buy from me. "networking" is rampant at these auctions. Although technically against the rules, several of the serious bidders and I have an unspoken agreement, we alternate letting each other have items without running up the bidding, we each make out better because of it. The bidding is getting pretty competitive these days, but bargains can always be found, you have to be FLEXIBLE, I missed several really nice deals by one or two bids, but I am notorious for not going over the 30% rule as much as possible, I want to triple my money! Well , that is plenty for now. I did pass on a 200 horsepower Yamaha 6 cyl outboard, needed a rebuild but the lower unit was fine, had the throttle assembly and oil injector resevoir and everything, I let it go for $900.00, which is a steal, I had a feeling the other bidder knew what is was worth and was going to go way higher, so I just let him have it, and didn't just run up the price. I approached him later to talk about it, and he indeed would've gone way higher, as he needed parts, and had driven 150 miles for that unit alone! He was thrilled that I stopped bidding, and in return, he didn't bid on anything else he saw me bidding on! It is illegal to bid fix, but unspoken acts of kindness usually get rewarded! I almost bought two 87 Lincoln limos! But I stopped at $2000 each and they went to $2200. They needed vinyl roofs, but I could have gotten $3000 or $3200 for them, otherwise they were in good shape.
I wonder if a moderator would change the name of this thread to "Auctions and Ebay lessons" ????

Yep! I actually ordered mine on last Wednesday, I thought I messed up, as you weren't supposed to order that soon, but they sent me the email. I inquired to see if I had indeed blown it, and I got a return email that said I was fine, I got my letter stating that my Hotwheels order (Roger Dodger) was backordered and would be delivered as soon as in stock, so all is well. I am going to list mine immediately, with a very high reserve, just to see what the biddding will get to, I don't intend to sell it for quite a while though. The rocket oils are all going for more than $60.00 each now. I'd say hold on to everything you got and watch the prices.

If anyone is watching this thread, you remember the posts about the Pipe Threader, well, I wanted to show you the accuracy of Ebay completed searches. Of course there are exceptions but Remember I told you the threader head and stand would go for $700 or so?? Well check below, it finished last night, the buyer is local and will pick the unit up, so no shipping. here is the link of the completed auction
Here (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1631048953&r=0&t=0&showTutorial=0&ed=999307834&indexURL=0&rd=1)
The additional Die head I got went over $100 and the radios that I had $50 total in have already netted over $250, The first and second safety harnesses went for $44 and $34.( I got 30 for $150)
My partner went to a VERY small city auction today (small suburb) and got a bunch of good deals, I will be checking them out come Tuesday.
