I think the box was similar to the briefcase in Pulp Fiction. It wasn't what was *in* the box that was important--it was what the box symbolized. It was the only thing he refused to "surrender" to the island and his situation. That's why he said it had saved his life. It was the last bit of hope that he refused to give up on.

Also the picture of the wings on the box may have given him the idea for the "sail" since he painted the wings on it... Didn't the lady make some sort of stained glass wings or something - in the beginning when she was in her shop??? I figured it was a miniature pair of wings or something...

I didn't really get into it. The 45-50 minutes of no person to person talking was interesting, but the ending deserved a little bit more IMHO. Then again, should I be complaining at the price? $0.00?

2 out of 5 stars. We see him stranded, we see him start to get used to the idea of not getting off the island, then 4 YEARS LATER, he's building a raft and leaving. C'mon. I'd like to have seen his torment about trying to hang himself for one. Another gap, how about the 4 weeks, 4 WEEKS, from when he was found to when he flew home? Please! Funny & touching scenes, and an interesting plot but not much else.

Yeah it would have been nice to see him eating bugs and tossing the test dummy of the cliff and so forth.

I thought it was a great movie. I tried to figure out what I would do in a situation like that...I have tried to start a fire before without matches, I was not successful.

Well I think the box contained a blow up body for Wilson, and I believe Wilson was a woman, I mean think about it face was red=rage, then she left him, that's typical of most women I've known..:K

I have to agree with you Ump. I somehow expected more from it. I kind of got bored with it to tell the truth. I don't think this was supposed to be a comedy, instead it was a "think piece". I kind of get lost in artsy movies anyhow. Gimme guns and blood etc. :D.

Castaway for overated and rather boring. I never got excited or laughed through any of it. Overall, weak movie trying to put a little symbolism in at the end to make it interesting, rather disgusting effort. On the other hand someone early wrote that Meet the Parents wasn't up to expectations?? Watch the movie a few times and you'll see things you didn't notice before, it's hilarious. You have to watch the chracters expressions and actions. The pool scene was great along with a host of others. Later!

I thought it was going to end with the pickup truck babe opening the box and he finds out it has a butane lighter, hunting knife, fish hooks, vitamins, a Playboy, two pounds of fudge and a SatPhone in it.
