Does anyone know how long DTV waits before disabling the remote ppv ordering when a phone line is not hooked up and how long it takes for them to reactivate ppv ordering once phone line is hooked up?

In response your first question...I believe that there is a maximum of 25 PPVs that can be ordered, then you can't order any more until you either use a PPV wipe on your card or you pay your bill. I am not sure on the second question.

I know this much already but I am not sure if you are aware that if your phone line is not hooked up it doesnt matter if you have used up your 25 ppvs or not Dave will disable ppv ordering after a while when they have noticed your phone line is not hooked up.

I guess I learned something new. I am unable to sub because I don't live in the US. I have read somewhere that if you call them up and say you want to sub DTV in your RV or boat (where there is no land line), you can get around this...its worth a shot
Good Luck!

When I sub'd, they asked me if the phone line was going to be connected or not. I said that there would not be a phone line connected to the IRD. They sub'd my system. Now, I haven't tried to order any PPVs, so it is entirely possible that I have a zero dollar limit set. I di have the option to call DTV and order PPVs by phone. But to simply subscribe a single IRD, you do not need a phone line.

I wipe ppvs on a neighbors subbed H card. DTV shuts off remote buying capability about every 5 to 6 weeks. She calls me up and I clean her card. She then plugs in her phone line, calls DTV and starts bitching saying she took the recvr camping for the weekend and forgot to plug the line back in. They initiate a "IRD call home" command to download before they turn it back on. IRD is remote capable in about 2 hours after the phone call. She then promptly unpluggs the line and watchs PPV's . Same routine for 10 months now. Not sure if it is any different with HU cards but I doubt it.

Very cool stuff NDSmitty! You see the creative things people come up with when they try :)

I have a an image of a sub cloned to a few others. The image is the subimage with remote payperview ordering capability. If the payperviews get disabled I just clone that sub image back to the card and they(sub cloned images) will again have remote payperview ordering capabilities, but I want to avoid all of this by simply pluging in the phone line to the original sub every now and then to avoid having the signal to disable ppv ordering by dave. My question is how long before they do this. Nditty says its about 5-6weeks I would like to know if anyone else has any input on this. My other question was once I plug in the phone line how long will take Dave to see that the line has been plugged in so they can wait another 5-6-weeks from the time that the line was replugged in.

Why would you unplug it in the first place if it is a sub? there is no advantage to this.

The advantage is that you can order paypervies on your sub and then when your card is full just reclone the card with the first image , hence cleaning your payperviews off of your sub card.

well I dunno if that 5-6 weeks is accurate, I've had my sub for 4 months now with the phone line never plugged in, and I'm still able to order ppv's by remote.

This all seems too easy to be true.Does this mean that I can order ppv on my sub and just clean card and reapply the original subbed image??

Think about this dmcnabb5: IF you're going to write the sub image back to the card, WHY DO YOU NEED TO CLEAN IT??? It's just an unnecessary step. And yes, as long as the tiers aren't expired on the sub image you're writing back to the card, you'll be fine, and be able to (theoraticly) order PPVs again.

Its been a while since I started this topic and I thought I would update it with results. So far I have been able to clean my ppvs by just reapplying my sub image that had no ppvs ordered. This is probably the safest and easiest way to go now. I am still paying for my sub but never pay for my payperviews.

I have three subbed ird's all with a phone line. I use a fourth ird to test with. My uncle has two ird's that are subbed now for three years and only had the phone line in the day his service was activated. He also pays for the nfl package. He can still order ppv by remote and he still gets his nfl package automatically renewed every season. The kicker is he has never plugged in the phone line since day one. So dtv is full of it when they say you need a phone line for sports packages. He is billed every season for it with no phone line in and never had a problem with it yet.

If he ordered more than 25 payperviews in one month he would get a message that his access card is full for Dave would not know to clean his card withouth the phone line. Dave is probably cleaning his card every month because he ordered the nfl package.

He doesn't order any ppv's at all because he is using an H card in a bootloader. I'm just saying when he puts his legit card in the ird he still has the capability of ordering ppv and he still gets his football package. He puts his legit card in every two or three days to keep the tiers from falling off.
