Dishnet has said when they take over Dtv and that all dtv customers will get new dish revceivers with in 3 years. It's time to start reading up on dishnet. This was said by the vice president of dishnet at a meeting held on Monday. You can listen to it at http://dishnetwork.com/new.shtml Just click on investor relations.

Tivel-

I sure hope not. I deal with both and the DTV receivers are much better than DN's. The guides and 32-bit processing is the only way to go.

I think it will be quite a long time before the merger takes place even if the deal is accepted.

They said if the deal goes through then it will be finalized in nine months.

Uh..... thats if Rupert gets beat out, AND if the deal with dishnet gets approved AND echostar doesn't get a bid in, AND AND AND AND AND, jeez, don't we have better things to do than be rumor mongers???? LOL. can you imagine the cost of replacing ALL the current dish set ups??? Lets use some sense here!

I also looked at the supporting slide show they have in there. Their conservative estimate of the cost to swap out all units (TV Top Boxes as they term them) comes to a little over [yellow]1 Billion Dollars[/color] through FY 2005.

Besides that , the FCC is frowning on Echostar taking over DirecTV, and DirecTV doesn't want that either. Of course it could happen, but Rupert has more cash, is a better candidate, and would present the FCC with less of a Monopoly Quandry than Echostar...

My Money is on NewsCorp, My guess is that a deal is announced by the end of August.

I read that in the local paper also.

They could indeed swap out all those receivers, . . .if they want to become a a non-profit organization! :D

Yes as it's been mentioned, there are a LOT of if's in the equation here; I'll just step back and watch. :)

Well maybe I should be a good boy scout and start looking around for a Dish set up. :)

As screwed up as Dish is, poor programming, high price.
Then the H Card will last 10 more years, I hope.
PGM is the man.

Uh.... I don't know about ten years, but we have SOME time left on the H, and nobody knows how much.

And Tivel, I wasn't really trying to slam you, but come on! If you pass along a story, even if you heard it on the "News" as FACT. People BELIEVE it. That is rumor mongering, not reporting. A little thought before "reporting" is what this country needs. It would indeed cost a billion dollars to outright swap dish setups. The fellow at Dish, that you heard, is passing rumors too! I just can't stand all the BULLS%IT, thats all.

And to everybody else:

DON'T BE A SHEEPLE!! QUESTION AUTHORITY, THINK FOR YOURSELF, DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE (lord knows there is a ton of it out there!!!))

PEACE

(tivel, I didn't mean to flame you)

quaddout.
