What do others think about this strategy? All other sat companies and cable will have WWF pay per views but not DTV.

They must be loosing revenue on the big events.
It may be sign of things to come since they are looking for a big sale.
Lets just hope it isnt a sign of a total shut down of the system. Though I doubt that very seriously..

Vince is up to something. This could be a contract ploy. I'm sure Vince is well aware that there are probably as many illigal cable boxes out there as there are D$V customers. This will just increase the revenue for cable box dealers.

I believe that they said this would be the last PPV that would *only* be available through D*V. In the future, they will also be available through other cable and sat companies.

I dont think the WWF has anything to do with this. See D*V buys the right to air the show for a said price. If D*V dont make enough orders to pay for the event then they lose money.
If it was WWF pulling the plug I would think they would pull the plug on the charlie system too.

Maybe DTV stopped paying for the pay per views in anticipation of a sale sometime soon?? Charlie or SKY

this was taken from wrestlezone.
The WWF has announced that the 8/19 SummerSlam PPV will be the last WWF PPV on DirecTV systems for the time being.
According to a DirecTV spokesperson, the company is going to pursue litigation with the WWF seeking money already paid to the Stamford-based promotion. Apparently the WWF is asking DirecTV to drop their financial claims so they can begin serious negotiations for a new contract.
According to an industry source, DirecTV was looking to up its stake in the WWF's PPV revenue, which is believed to be why negotiations stalled in the first place, and now since the WWF is the leader in the PPV industry, the WWF believed that it was time to start negotiating under their terms as they now have the leverage to do so.
According to a Broadcasting and Cable spokesperson, 15% of the WWF's PPV revenue comes from viewers who are with DirecTV.
More updates will follow.

You get in there and beat one of those big guys at their game and then you can say it's fake and or whatever, as far as it goes, I think Vince knows EXACTLY whats going on and he's the reason for it not being showed on D@#, after all, thats the only one they're not showing it on after this one so you go figure!!!

I think you guys got it all wrong. earlier this month the World Wildlife Federation (WWF) won a court order odering the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) to stop using WWF call letters. i think they'll be back next month but with different call letters. just blowin' a little smoke. vinnie is too money hungry to just drop D*V.

I saw a wrestling web site that said negotiations broke off because dtv wanted a bigger cut(big suprise) and that they would sue wwf.It also said dtv had 15% of all ppv sales.
IMHO 15% is a lot and a deal will be worked out

WWF Off DirecTV After SummerSlam
Reported by: Fred Cook - August 17, 2001
WWF spokesperson Jayson Bernstein confirmed moments ago that the company's negotiations with DirecTV regarding a new distribution agreement are no longer in progress. Bernstein stressed that "until further notice," Sunday's SummerSlam event will be the last WWF pay-per-view available on DirecTV.
"Based on the numbers that DirecTV has given me, 15 percent of the WWF's pay-per-view business comes from DirecTV," John Higgins of Broadcasting and Cable Magazine said.
DirecTV's programming acquisitions vice president Michael Thorton told Higgins that there is an outstanding issue from the last deal in which DirecTV is seeking to recover money that was already paid to the WWF.
Apparently in regards to that issue, Bernstein said that, "DirecTV has chosen the litigation path instead of the negotiating path."
Higgins also reports that DirecTV officials want to sign a new deal and submit the money dispute to an arbitrator. Meanwhile, Higgins reports that the WWF is asking DirecTV to drop their financial claims before they continue negotiations on a new deal.
Earlier today, a cable industry source told told me that despite most analysts assuming that the WWF was looking to increase its pay-per-view percentage take, it was in fact DirecTV who was looking to up its percentage during the most recent negotiations

The followiong was taken from Cahners/TVInsite Web page.....
A dispute between World Wrestling Federation Entertainment and DirecTV is escalating with WWFE yanking PPV events away from the DBS service.
WWFE notified fans after August 12th’s 'SummerSlam' that events will no longer be available on DirecTV, and suggested they turn to EchoStar or cable to get access to September’s event.
The two companies have for months been working on renewing their existing distribution deal.
Though he wouldn’t provide details, DirecTV programming acquisitions vice president Michael Thorton said that there is an outstanding issue from the last deal in which DirecTV is seeking to recover money that’s already been paid.
DirecTV wants to sign a new deal and submit the dispute to an arbitrator.
Thorton said that WWFE want give up on the issue or DirecTV won’t get any more programs.
'They’ve said `we’re not going to go forward with you if your don’t drop it,’' Thorton said. 'Contrary to what they’re saying, they’re not negotiating.'
WWFE President Stuart Snyder said that 'It’s regrettable that DirecTV has resorted to litigation' and that in order to keep its fans happy the company will help and encourage them in finding 'alternate means to get our September event.'
That match, 'Unforgiven', is scheduled for Sept. 23.

Right on, well good fortune for you all the same, but I'm still waiting on the "Word" from the ones I'm familiar with to know that the "Digital Cable" is actually "On The Go", so, yes, it's all good all the same, but I'm still waiting for those in which I'm familiar with, in which I'm sure you understand!? Thanks for your input!
