Now we all know how frustrating it can be to have 3 or 4 remotes to fumble through, just to find the one thats going to turn up the volume on the surrond, and not the T.V.
If you love that loud action movie like I do you know we use the surrond more than the T.V.

I would like to know how many people have found that magic remote. You know the one! The only remote that you need to run it all. And give us the devices you are using ( make, Model etc.) So we can compare, I know I need to.

What I have is A RCA (TV) SONY (Surround Sound) Allegro (VCR) a Pioneer (CD PLAYER) and a 420 RE (SAT RECIEVER)

I do not have model # yet because I am at work but I will post them later. I can't seem to find A remote that will operate the 420RE properly.

Ok! Everyone let it rip and lets find that Magic Remote..;)

The Marantz RC 5000. It's the coolest remote in the world. It hooks up to your computer and has an LCD touch screen. You can program icons (like NHL logo, NFL, Dave TV! :D etc etc) or pretty much anything you want onto it. You use your computer to set up the macros for each button. For example, you can have a button saying "Turn on satellite" and then you program it to turn on your amp, IRD, tv, the video input your tv needs to be at, and whatever preset your amp needs to be at. When hooked up to the comp, you make it "learn" all your other remotes' functions. It's ass kickin! I've got one and won't give it up for anything. It's fairly pricy, I think Future Shop has them up here in Canada for around $900 last I looked, but well worth the $$ spent. I got mine for cheaper than that because the company I used to work for carries them and I got it at cost ($475 Canadian). Check it out!

Oh ya, I have a Toshiba TheatreView 51" TV; a Pioneer all-in-one DVD, Dolby 5.1 receiver, CD player, tuner; an older Sharp VCR (which very rarely gets used anymore); and a Hughes 4th Gen IRD (not sure of the model).

And the Marantz RC 5000 works with the RCA 420. It works with pretty much any IR device you have in your house. I haven't found anything yet that it can't do.

For THAT kinda money you could buy new receivers that would work on your TV remote. I have ALL sony. No problems here. I have disconnected the Amp. It makes too much noise.

As far as I'm concerned, this is the perfect remote.

no doubt, my universal $14.00 from somewhere, does fine, controls everything. $450 for a remote, guys you watch wayyyyyy too much tv if you think you need that. but hey, If I had a million bucks I'd probably have one of those

Onkyo reciever (good old pro logic still, not dig yet)
Yamaha cassette and CD
Bose surround
Phillips 32 inch tube (want a Hitachi 60 projection but don't watch enough to justify)
Phillips VCR (never use it though)
As far as IRD, I think it is a 222, its out of its case, as someone returned it, and I took it apart and never bothered putting it back together, works fine.

Does anyone know of a "cheaper remote" that lets you program macros? I am not opposed to spending more than $19.99, but $450 is a little rich for me.

I have at least 20 remotes around the house. And none of them works, then way they should.

I have aimed the remotes at my wife and pressed the MUTE. So I thought it was the batteries. I changed my bateries, still does not work. I have tried all the remotes around the house, and none of them will MUTE my with.

Do I have to Emulate her? Should I use BasicH on her? Maybe, I should use, the shareware MUTE.COM...but couldn't find it. I even tried the ON/OFF...stiil does not work.

The only way I was able to MUTE her, was to have her go outside and cut the grass....

Oh well...

I have tried several different remotes from wally world and I can't find one that will operate the DRD420RE properly> None of them have A OK button as the original remote does. I have tried the Cinema series.

Cerberus which one are you using?

The best remote, hands down, except for another human being, is the Pronto TSU 2000, made by Philips. I have two of these remotes and replaced the 5 others. There isn't anything that the remote can't operate (except RF) it even can be modified to work with lights, electric blinds, fans with an RF adaptor.

These remotes can be custom programmed through your laptop or desk top computer via a serial cable. (yep, you have to disconnect your emulator) They work everything and you can dowload custom programs from Remote Central. The device looks like a Palm Pilot and the buttons, can be custom programmed along with the LCD screen. It's awesome, and it really works as advertised.

Price 200-300 range, use Price scan or Price grabber to find the cheapest vendor.

The Cinema 7 from One For All model URC-7201b00 does the job. Has an 'ok' button, though called 'sel'. I use this one remote for my TV, VCR, DVD, Sat receiver and stereo w/surround. Includes 2 macro buttons and PIP control. $17 in Wally World. Go to thier site, they have many other choices. oneforall dot com

I have tried the cinema 7 and the select button does not work properly on the 420RE model receiver.:( Also some of the numbers do not work correctly and you can only channel up. I tried two different cinema 7's and got the same results..
If I could get this to work I would use one because it does run everything else I have...;)

http://www.lexicon.com/700t/images.html
Every one has their preferences, as i have two A/V racks in separate rooms, my remote is important, I tried the microsoft, touch screen, but it was really slow executing macro'd commands, pain in the ass., next was the reasonably inexpensive "all in one theater", the feature I liked most was the rf repeater which enabled switching of my A/V sources from anothe room. But once you try the lexicon 700RF, you're spoiled, over the years my components will come and go but the lexicon will stay, the screens are fully customizable using a pc, it has a charging station, instead of batteries, I made menu's from the main screen that even my wife can understand "turn everything on" "watch satellite" "play a video" "sony Playstation" "computer audio" "close the curtains" etc, if she selects "watch Satellite" for example, the unit then switches to satellite commands "guide" "menu" etc, but still has volume controls for the Yamaha reciever on every screen, very cool.
I hope I didn't violate any rules posting a link to the lexicon images, if so please remove them, I'm not selling them or anything.

Also a "niles" repeater is awesome, there's a small IR sensor, which I attached the the big screen (where most people point the remote, regardless of the location of the rack)this sends the signal to an IR "Blaster", which repeats the IR command so powerfully that wherever the rack is, it recieves the command.
