I am in a bit of a bind. I moved into a new condo complex
and was misinformed about the rules of dish installation.
To make a long story short, the only way I can access the
signal is through the windows on the south side.

There have been many posts about accessing the signal through a window and I have read them all. Plexiglass is not an option for me.

I was wondering if it was possible to use a signal booster to juice up the weakened signal coming through the glass.

Please give me some suggestions, because this is my last resort.

Thanx.

I think if the window was made of plastic you could get away with it I put a plastic rake in front of my lnb and it did nothing.

Hi there, please dont take this the wrong way but why dont you just try setting up the dish and see what happens. if it works great, if it dosent work, at least you tried. I wanted to know if I could get both dish and dave on my dish 500 using 3 lnb, two for dish (110,119) one for dave (101). guess what I tried and it worked, instead of using two dish i only need one. your indoors, thats the best way to see if your getting a signal,... try or not to try thats upto you,,.

If you have a porch, some have set up their dish on a mast in a 5 gallon bucket filled with concrete. This may be another option for you.
Good luck.

This may or may not help you, but some landlords are a$$holes, and they'll back off once you show them this.
The key verbage here is "exclusive use", meaning the dish must be contained in your area of which you have a right to exclusive use. If the dish is mounted on a balcony for example, it must be inside your living area, not hanging out over the side into a "common use" area.

I made a portable unit with a few 2x4's and a 2x10 for a base. If you have a pretty clean shot at the birds you should be able to pick it up the signal fairly easily. This worked on a patio. I could not pick up a signal through glass with this setup. Good luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions people. Yes I did try to
access the signal through the existing window, but it is a
thermal window and these prevent the signal from entering.
Something to do with the lead content.

I had already put my dish on the balcony (which faces north by the way) and they did not like the fact that the dish was visible above the roof.

I am now checking out if I can replace my thermal window with a plexiglass thermal. Plexiglass allows the signal to pass through. I will keep you informed of the progress.

By the way I am becoming increasingly vigilant toward those A-holes in the condo building. Just let one of them sneeze the wrong way.

They have to let you mount it by law, check out the fcc's website, there is a link earlier in the thread. Let us know what the ol' landlord said.

Thanks Bestech, but I live in Canada and the FCC rules do not apply here. (Not yet anyway). I don't know of any similar regulations that exist up here, but it looks like we need something like that to protect us little guys.

Now that where talking about Canada I will jump in. I recently installed a DAVE system in a Condo in Western Canada and had to go through the same BS that your going through. I confronted the building manager and asked him to show me in writing where it stated the balcony was not the property of the Condo owner. After he fumbled around for awhile and phoned his boss they gave in. It seems to vary from province to province but where I'm located they could not make me remove the dish as long as it did not interfere with the cosmetic makeup of the building?...........You got me but that's what I was told when I phoned the Condo association. If they give you a ton of grief you may have to make a stand for the dish and go from there. If you need to know what province I'm in for reference PM me.
