Howdy y'all. I'm in need of some help. Mighty fine facilities y'all got here. Mind if I move in?
Here's my problem:

My system (Sony B3 on a BS card also a sub) is driving me NUTZ! Every now and then it just starts "Searching for Satellite" and the darn thing comes on when it wants to. I have done everything except hit my reciever with a hammer.
Some of my attempts at waking this thing up:

Pull the plug (FOR 5 minutes, 10, 20 a day) NO help
Pulled the plug, then the sat in cable and plug back in, power on, "searching" power off, sat cable in, power up. NOTHING (That by the way is what Sony recommends, it worked for me a few times, but not anymore.)

I took the reciever off the shared strip that it was on tonight thinking that my solve my problem as I read that on here before, unfortunately NOTHING.

It's a Sony B3 and it's running on a BS Sunday card.

Please folks, I heard this park had a lot of good caring toothless nappy hair dating their sister types and I'm hopin that is true so I can move in here and enjoy y'alls company.

Even if I can get an answer, that would help, at least then maybe I can solve a problem...

So can someone help me get this thing off the hitch? Or should I make my way down the road to another trailer park?

One of five things wrong, doesn't sound like it's the card so long as you eventually get signal.

1. Loose antenna wire.
2. Trees or something temporarily blocking the signal.
3. Short in the receiver or the receiver is overheating.
4. Card is shorting out, try another card and see if it
continues.
5. Crank up the trailer jack, then jump on the hitch, you will then jar it loose. Oil your balls and the hitch mechanism, that way you won't get the hitch stuck. Slippery balls never hurt a hitch.

My Sony did the same thing with a fixed H card plugged directly in the receiver. The card got hit on black Sunday, a boot board and my re-programmed BS card solved the problem. My friend solved his similar problem with a new fitting on his antenna wire, the end that screws onto the "Sat in" connector of the receiver.

Good luck. If you don't solve the problem just use the hammer and then throw the sucker out your trailer window, right on top of the pile of other hammered receivers.

Al (I'll hammer anything at the first glitch)

Are you using a bootloader? Could be a problem with that. It isn't unheard of. I have problems with sony b50 everyonce in a while it just locks up. I think it is a heat issue as I have an enclosed entertainment center and I usually leave the ird running. After letting it cool off for a day or so it works fine. Weird but I am learning to live with it lol.

The Sony B3 is set to transponder 2 by factory default. Now when I check the signal, I get zero. But when I go to odd number transponders (3,5,7,9, ETC...) I get a signal of 80+ so what can I do? This has me really worked up.
The shows come on, after 5 minutes, start to break up, "searching for satellite" then the game starts all over...

By the way, the LNB, dish, and line are new (About a month old) and I can't change the transponders as far as I know unless someone has a trick for that...

Thanks guys.

All transponder need to have a signal. Different transponders recieve different channels.
I agree with Alaccountant but would also try a different LNB
Does it happen at certain times of day?

The LNB has been fine, thanks for the idea though.

This thing happens about 1 a month, maybe 1 every month and a half.

I just need to find the answer. I have a subbed card also and that reciever is giving me grief also.

Anyone know why odd transponders are coming in and even aren't?
What can I do?

You said your subbed card and another receiver are also giving you problems, same antenna, right?

It has to be your antenna or wire, could be fittings on the end are shorted out. Either that, or you are aimed at the wrong Sat.

First check your antenna wire, you will need a continuity testor or ohm meter. They are cheap to buy at Radio Shack, get the cheapest volt/ohm meter, they also have a continuity selection that puts out a beeping sound. Here's what you need to do.

Disconnect the wire from both the antenna and receiver, set the testor to 1 ohm or sound, touch one lead to the center wire of the connector, the other lead to the part of the connector that twists. You should have no sound and no reading on the meter. If you do, the wire is shorted and that's your problem. Also make sure that the center wire does not bend and touch the connector when you screw it in, either end.

If this is not the problem then your IRD is not compatible with the receivers or not working. You are aimed at the wrong Sat, Something mysteriously is blocking your line of sight to the Sat.

If this doesn't solve your problem, it means that you are f**king with us or work for Direct TV.

Hope you fix it, cause if you work for DTV we will hunt you down, and make you pay. LOL

Al

How did you check the LNB? Moisture or heat can cause random problems. I'm not arguing that its bad, just wondering how you checked it:)

Are you using RG6 cable?

....i have the solution,..i had the exact same thing happen too me in my RV a few days ago...every other transponder did not have a signal,..what it is ,..is your connection,..where you put the new coax you bought,..the inner wire is not connecting too the next coax connection,..[hope that makes sense],..anyways,...i had new coaxial too,.but i bought the coaxial from wal-mart,..its taiwain junk,..went and bought good quality 50 foot coaxial from r. shack,..and that fixed it,..you could fix the connecters,..but i would just get good quality coaxial,.because it will last only so long,..then just collect condensation and rust...good luck,....let us know how ya make out..

That could be it. Damn, I have replaced this wire twice too. And it has been floating around 95+ degrees around here...

Hmmmmm...
I think I'll try replacing the connectors first, I already have two rg6 in the ground and really don't feel like laying another. Hopefully that will help.

As for the moron saying I work for DTV, dude, get a grip. I hardly think that they'd be attempting to infiltrate on a subject like this.
A man of high education you must be...Geez....

Anyway, if anyone else has an idea, throw it out there...

Someone want to help me unhitch this trailer now?

Well, there was a splitter that got weathered a bit and rust on the wire and connector. replaced the connector and re-spliced the wire comng to the house. We're picking up transponder 2 at 87% strength.

Thanks to all.

By the way, me and my sister broke up, if anyone is interested, maybe I could hook you up!

Al = moron?
No, I don't think so. Al strikes me as the kind of man that has been called a lot of things in his life, but I doubt if moron is one of them.

Help with the trailer.
Well, we always welcome new residents to our park, and we're always willing to lend a hand, but no one has ever called the mayor of our park a moron before. I'm sure we can still find a spot for you, but it probably won't be in a prime location.

Al ---> Al Bundy?

Just kiddin, I appologize, I misunderstood your post. Now can I hookup to the water connections? Please don't make me move next to the dumpsters or near the front of the park, all those headlights coming and going can drive a man mad.

By the way, me and my sister made up. We're gonna be going out on a date tomorow night. Now fellas, pickup those beer cans in front of your trailers, I wanna impress her with my new neighborhood. Might even wash down the trailer so everything is all Shiny and pretty like. I'm thinkin of maybe a bath and brushing all 3 of my teeth! Really show her a good time.

Thanks again guys and sorry Mr.Mayor, didn't realize who I was talkin to...

Man, we covered all the bases, if the problem still existed after changing receivers, cards, connectors, dishes, then there could only be two things left.

1. Your splitter? lol...You didn't tell us about any stinking splitter. lol.. You also didn't say much about your sister. Hope she's in better shape than your rusty splitter. While thinking of it, my splitter is getting kinda rusty too.

2. You are f*&^ing with us. lol...In my book, anyone that screws with us must work for Dave. Everybody knows that the company is one big screw-up. Glad your problem was real, it's kinda unusual that someone that has a real problem showes up in the BS area first.

Anyhow, glad you finally got to the bottom of it, just another case closed, now, we can get back to the real BS.

Al (maybe mayor, but, still just another (_|_)hole tryin to shovel ---- against the tide)

Mr. Mayor, isn't the spot next to the septic pond still open? :)

Alaccountant
August 26th, 2001, 04:36 PM
Yep, the pond spot is still open, however, last I heard some of the guys were talking about dragging the pond and trying to clean it up. Every body is getting recycle crazy these day. LOL...I don't care how much they drag ,or, what chemicals they use I'm not eatin any fish that end up in that pond. Bet you don't know the whole story behind that pond, do you?

Well, They say that one of Quaddawg's ex-wives used to bathe in that pond before it was converted to the sewage dump. People around the pond started to smell something funny, it was the fish. For some reason, when she went in, they couldn't get the smell out of the fish. Damn, it spread all over the world, however, only the fish in the pond were forbidden, as food. Anyhow, since the conversion, who cares?

Al (hows's that for a BS story?)

Damn Al there is so much BS rolling out of the hills after that story I'm afraid the Nixon Library is in trouble.
