Hi,

I am told that there are a few channels that broadcast in HD format. Here is my question. Do I need special hardware in order to see the HD signal on a HDTV? If I have regular hardware (non HD dish or receiver) would the signal still come out in HD format on my HDTV or just regular quality (480i)?

Are there any disadvantages of getting HD (DTC-100)hardware.. will it be able to go into the 900 channel range?

Could anyone recommend a good HD receiver?

Thanks.

yes.

conventional. NO HDTV of any format.

Some yes, some no. Anything new will not be in the 900's.

Well I went shopping at BestBuy for HDTV and here is what I found out.
I was looking at the TVs and the sales person was more than happy to help. So I said "I buy this HDTV (toshiba) for 2800 bucs and hook it up to my satellite and watch TV?" He says well you need a HDTV reciever. RCA unit here for $550 and a dual LNB antenna $150 (eliptical dish) So another $700 and this HDTV will actually recieve HDTV? Well he says you'll need this converter here for $130 unless you buy the RCA HDTV which allready has that in it. Yikes!! all for a couple of channels with HDTV format? Well not yet, I think I'll wait somemore. I have looked at other stores and have only seen the one reciever(RCA) that is HDTV. Last week BestBuy had it on sale for $369.(floor model)

First off you will need a HD Satellite receiver (RCA, Sony & Mitsubishi havem), and you will need the 24" eliptical dish. And no you will not get the 900's.

Mits or Sony. I got Mits and I love it. It is worth the money. Better with OTA local HD channels.
Good luck
