Anyboby know anything about the Hidden menu settings that you can access by (on my dtc100 holding INFO & DWN ARROW). There is an update setting for either Normal updates or Special updates. Default is normal, wondering what special does.

the special updates is said to prevent firmware updates. But don't Know if it does. The only true way is Plakner's Mod.

Firmware Update

When you install your system take the HU card out. When you have a signal, do the following:

1. Tune to channel 199
2. on the receiver, press info and the left button and hold them both down until the menu appears.
3. Select "Demo Mode"
4. Select "Special Update Mode"

This should stop the receiver from accepting any firmware updates.

Menus can be accessed with the card in or out, rebooting does not seem to reset this back to normal update mode, but it would not be prudent to check whenever you put a new image on.

REMEMBER:This only affects DirectTV receivers, which means 5th generation RCA receivers. The 5th generation RCA receivers are small, with the card slot in the center and seven buttons on the top, and they should say DirectTV Plus on the left side.

If you do not have a 5th generation, DIRECTTV PLUS receiver, you do not need to worry about this.
