View Full Version : Elliptical w/ 3 receivers

I just picked up an elliptical dish. I am currently running 2 receivers upstairs on a dual LNB setup.

My tenant downstairs is getting a setup, but I'd rather put up an elliptical and run 3 recievers of it, rather than have 2 dishes up to run 3 receivers.

The 2 receivers upstairs are 4th gens, and his will be a 5th. Can I run all three off the elliptical without a hitch? Or are 5th gens required (I'm a little confused)?

I've seen some people say that 4th gens should just skip the multi switch. I'm not interested in the extra porgramming available on the other bird, I would just like to keep the number of dishes to minimum.

Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can mix the generations of receivers/IRDs, no problem. As long as you are not wanting to see the stuff on the second/third satellite, use the multiswitch that comes with the Elliptical Dish.

Take the time to make sure your mount / mast is absolutely plumb & level...it'll make finding the second satellite * _ > MUCH < _ * easier.

bob - I think you misunderstand the purpose of an elliptical dishes multi-amp mount. You cannot use the 4 outputs of the two amps to run three receivers all looking at DTVs 101 location. They look at different "slots" in the sky for satellites at different locations.

A multi switch is all you need. Don't bother putting up another dish, just run the outputs of your current dual amp into the multiswitch and hook the three receivers up to it (4th gen receivers work just fine).

If you purchased the elliptical dish for the card and can't return it, then, by all means, go ahead and use the sw that came with it ;) but a four output multi sw currently wholesales for under $20 so I'd return it if you can, you don't need any of it for what you want to do.

Cool, so I can run 3 receivers of a dual LNB with the aid of the 4 way multiswitch eh?

That sounds good to me.

Thanks for the help.

put up the big dish, that way the tenant can get the 119 bird, and if you ever change to a fifth gen, your all set as well.
besides the switch is gonna cost almost as much as the whole unit !
