Do you know how to kiss babies and talk out of both sides of you month?
Well if your talking real money, then I would think about getting into politics. You get paid by the taxpayers above the table, and in addition to that, you get paid by special interest groups under the table.

Just my opinion, but by the time you learn a new occupation, find a good job, stay there long enough to get the good pay and benifits,It will be time for you to retire.Nobody said that life was fair.I am an autotech,I know about busting my butt, and trying to keep up with the new technoligy is a job all in is self.I am not getting rich but I do OK. You are better off staying with what you know.Just my opinion.Good luck with what ever you decide.BZG.

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER
NEVER DO ANYTHING THAT YOU HATE!!
I would rather starve happy and free than wake up one morning hating my job!
I agree with Cellular, there is good satisfying money in sales, How about you branch off your current knowledge of Construction? Go into contracting, have people make you money, unstead of making people money. Ask yourself what you would do if you were rich, pretend you didn't have to work, what would you do with your day? Aim your career towards that. Do something or sell something you believe in.
Life is NOT about working your ass off, just so you can get a motorhome or trailer in Florida and sit around with other old farts! Go play, have fun, make money at something that you would normally PAY to do! Sucessful people aren't the ones who retire at 65 and sit around on Social Security or even on their own investments. Sucess is simply being happy and satisfied with your life. Spend as much time as possible with your Kids, your Wife, any of your family, and friends, Smile, party (if you like to) If you don't like to get up early, don't get a job where someone makes you! People are basically slaves to what they THINK they have to do to survive, let me tell you from first hand experience, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO!! I am not wealthy monetarily, but if I died tonight, I couldn't complain, as I have spent the first 40 years of my life traveling, learning roaming, and just generally hanging out. It drives my friends crazy, they are all in debt, and I am free and clear. They all get up and work their asses off, I get up when I feel like it, and do what I like to do, all day long. I ain't that smart, I just know that there is plenty of money out there, and if I position myself correctly, I can get enough to pay the bills and have a blast! Don't succumb to the brainwashing of the masses, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HATE YOUR JOB! Hell, you don't even have to have a JOB. All you have to do is find a few things that are cheap in one area, and get them to an area that will pay a few points more for them. Or.... if you don't like that sort of thing, find your hobbies, and think of all the people that are employed to bring them to you, make yourself one of them. The goal here isn't to die with a bunch of money, the goal is to have a nice enjoyable life, if you die with money in the bank, you left something undone, some sight unseen, some friend unhelped. LIVE LIVE LIVE and PLEASE
DON'T SETTLE FOR A JOB YOU HATE!!!

I repair life support equipment to pay the bills. It is nice to get that warm fuzzy feeling when you "Get the job done." I also enjoy the "hands on when "You DO it Yourself." I am right behind you, so close to 40 that I can smell it. Maybe it is just the mystical mid life crisis. Sometimes I just want to have a single wide at the " RED NECK RIVERIA" on the Florida coast but the bills will not let me go. Think about where you want to be when you are 62.5. Sorry no advice but I do Know what you are saying. Good Luck.

I hated my career too so I just quit at 40 which was on the 21'st. I could barely force myself to go to work. I have just been slacking off lately, giving myself a much needed break before getting back into it. I am looking at a sales career also as a possible option. I think what I would really enjoy doing is what Quad does. Go to auctions and elsewhere, buy low, then resale on ebay for profit. I wonder if Quad would give us some classes? Hell I might even pay tuition for it :D.

The more you know.
The less you do, the more you make.

Quad has the right idea, you gotta find something you like, better yet love.
I thought I would love being an Electronics Engineer, and the first few years were fun, but then it became just more of the same every day. Now I run my own business and I love it. If somebody had told me twenty years ago that I would love business, I would have laughed in their face.
Sales is a great idea, sell something very expensive. But remember, the most important thing you are selling is yourself.

max1mike quit tommorow do not wait, if you hate your job do something else.
I think Quad has the right idea, stay out of major debt. I worked as a loan officer at a bank, and it was nothing for people to consolidate 40,000 to 50,000 thousand dollars of credit card debt using their house as collateral. CRAZY!
I love kids, so now I am going to teach middle school science.

I like showing up with the new hard hat, the clean safety shoes, and the roll of plans. Usually it means someone is gonna get an ass kicking. Its good to be the engineer.

I agree with Cellular on almost anypoint but this one.
I wear blue Jeans and T shirts, I have tattoos and a beard, I make a very good salesman. If you sell in a corporate atmospshere, then yes, you may have to "look" the part, but if you don't like that, then don't sell in the corporate atmosphere, I abhore worthless uniforms and a suit is a uniform, with a handle tied around your neck! You can sell yachts, dressed casually, who wears a suit on a yacht?? You can sell Quads dressed in riding gear, or toilets dressed as a plumber. I have sold to folks that wear suits, I walk right into their offices, jeans and tatoos, and even a PD t-shirt. Sure it causes a stir, but when I open my mouth, people stop looking at my clothes and pay attention to what I say. I get remembered! Cellular is so correct in saying that you have to know your product, one more reason to do what you love! Sell what you know and would buy yourself. Better yet, sell something you have already purchased! It's all a personality thing, I am just as comfortable sitting in a board room and giving a presentation as I am roaming the woods on my quad, AS LONG AS I BELIEVE IN WHAT I AM DOING!. Thats the key! Sales is not for everyone. But I believe it was cellular that said
YOU ARE SELLING YOURSELF. If they will believe you are sincere, they will believe in your product, no matter what that may be.
You can sell anything, your services, products, an idea, ANYTHING!
Good luck.
(TC as far as lessons, I tried in the "Check this out" thread, didn't have many responders, so I quit. I sold a measley little $2000 today, (not on ebay, but as a result of contacts made on ebay) its not much, but the profit on my part, allows me to get my riding clothes on and call it a day....lessee, I got up at noon, checked an email, took an order, made to phone calls to line it up, now at 1:25, I am off to the trails! (made about $200 in an hour) nuff said, I am out of here!
Good luck! believe in yourself, do your customers a great service, communicate and have that cell phone handy!!!

The key to success in sales is hard work and persistance. I have known many people who are not the classic type of sales person who have been successful. They do it by knocking on as many doors everyday as is possible and creating a good relationship with their customers by being an advocate and giving a level of service no one else is willing to give. Anyone can sell. You just have to find a company with a product or service you can believe in. In the end, you are a consultant, not just a salesman.
Sorry, I have to post again.
These are some of the best and truest words your will ever read.
Go the extra mile, and people will not worry about the bottom line as much. that is the extra money in your pocket.
