I am looking for opinions and suggestions for things to keep in mind for someone who is considering moving from the US to Canada. Vancouver is the location so far due to being some what decent weather and near the ocean. Some type of business would be set up, not sure which yet because that is the only way to become a citizen in this case. Reason I ask is when moved down south in the US from OH, didn't do my research and realized that I have to pay a car tax what a crock. So just trying to avoid things that would sneek up. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Beautiful BC......the land of the tax......:D There are many great things about BC, but expect that there are many hidden taxes here as well. As well, if your bringing cars with you they will have to be safety inspected (whether they are new off the lot or 30 yrs old) ICBC, has made it mandetory that all cars need to be safetied if they are not from BC and you try to insure it here......but BC is gorgeous, and the weathers not to bad on the lower mainland.....but if you go to far into the interior, we have lots of snow! ;) Good luck!

Taxes are everywhere I know. Would you as a citizen say that your gov't spends your tax dollar wisely?

Lets put it this way......I'm not a good person to ask, 'cause I'm not a fan of our gov't right now! ;)

In the last 10 years I can't think of one of our premiers who hasn't either been indicted or under inverstigation for stuff they've done while in power......as to tax spending.......depends.....we just elected a new premier, and he seems to want to run this place at the largest deficit as possible, but who knows, he may surprise us.....alot of our tax dolars go to heath care due to the fact we have a completely different system for health care than in the states, but they also do things like fast ferries (a sore subject still up here) .....like I said there are good things about BC and bad things. You can't beat the scenery, it is absolutely amazing up here, but, you get stuck with incompetant politicians.......

*also can't beat the fact that you can "test" directv up here at least until Dec 4 ;)*

That is why I want to come to Canada, so I can cath the Browns win the super bowl in a year or two. The other option was my actual first choice Amsterdam however my spouse doesn't want to go that far (being would need to fly back to states for family) and I can use my dish.
