I helping my inlaws install DTV and I'm looking like a fool !! Its a Hughes E-1 system. I've got the dish installed and rg-6 going straight from the dish to the reciever. I hooked up a signal meter and moved the dish until I got 100% on the meter. But I'm getting 0% on the TV screen. NOTHING !! I grounded out the rg-6 on several different grounds. And also grounded the dish. WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING WRONG?
My boss is also trying to install DTV and is having the same problem....strong signal on his meter but 0% at the TV.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~any suggestions ????:mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:
You're using one of those in-line meters? If so then, you're just on the wrong satellite. The meter is telling you you've got signal, but it's not DTVs.
Look at your elevation, you're either too high or too low.
Grounding isn't a factor, and it doesn't matter what transponder you're on keep it on 2 or 3 for now until you getthe sat.
Set it to a transponder below 26, so you don't lock on 119 by mistake.
It's the other satellite that D uses for the plus IRD's.
I am having similar problem. At my home I have 8 sat receivers running off a single oval dish successfully(2 twin tuner tivo's, a sony hd-100 High def, a pair of rca 480's and a sony b 50) with zero problems running thru 3 multiswitches and signals in the mid to high 80's. I now try to hook up a single round dish with a dual lnb for my son and am using a channel master twin meter(super delux)device and it measures a strong signal(moving the dish back and forth I get a strong meter reading with a strong tone intensity) and yet I get zero level at the pair of rca receivers. I then took one of them home to my check out on my system and of course all worked well. I too felt that I must be looking at a incorrect satellite but azimuth 132 and elevation 41 were set correctly with a properly leveled dish. Moved my sons dish so had absolutely no foliage(had been peaking thru just a little on a neighbors tree) to another spot(now looks OVER) my neighbors outside roof mounted tv antenna. What sat could I be getting a signal on(I also tried setting the sat setup as an oval dish to see if I was getting a 119 signal in error but got no signal on 119 either. Could I be getting 110 sat(is that correct number) that is used for local channels in some areas? Also am metering with meter from the end of the cable where the sat receivers are located. Also tried inline inexpensive meter with same result(high meter signal but zero on tv's). Zip code is 95035 in San Jose area of Cal. Running 60 ft of RG 6 cable on both sides with snap & seal connectors. Could neighbors tv antenna be setting up an interference pattern??:D
Well, it all seems you guys are locking on a different satellite...
Dont be lazy... take a small TV up the roof and your IRD, and fine tune it with the IRD...
Geez... I ussually take the signal meter and the IRD to double check that Im on the right bird...
Never had a problem of that kind...
Anyone have an idea of a website that would give you a map of the sats up there and how they relate to each other in position(not just the directv sats but all of them including dish and others). Would be good to know what sats that we are spotting in error and emmiting a signal strong enough to trigger our metering devices.
