View Full Version : Dish Switch SW64 used with DTV?

Hi, I received as a gift a multi-dish switch model SW64 from DISH.
It has inputs from 3 dual LNBs (6 signal inputs) and allows to feed 3 satellite receivers and a fourth via the power supply inserter.

Obviously it is to be used with DISH receivers.

As you can imagine, the question here is; Is it possible to hook it up to work with DTV reveivers?

The problem is that I don't see how a receiver would choose and switch signal from the 6 signal inputs, it seems it is a native function of the DISH units.

Any help will be appreciated.

The Dish Network switches use a 125 bps NRZ serial protocol using the LNB polorization voltage (13V/18V). It is possible to convert from the DirecTV standard of 22 kHz signalling to this protocol, but not at all practical. See the dbs_tech site at Geocites for more info about switch protocols.

It seems that I would need to sell this SW64 unit and buy a 22kHz switch to select between two 18" dishes installed, one for 101W and another to 119W satellites. Now, what switches from one to another dish? what commands the 22kHz switch? if it is the 5th gen receiver, how it knows which dish to select? all I want is the Nasa channel from the 119W.
Thank you.

Yes you would need a 5th generation receiver to send the 22khz tone to switch between the 2. You set the dish type in the setup menu's for an oval dish with 2 lnb's The receiver then sends a 22khz tone to the multiswitch which causes it to switch to the second set of inputs for the 119 bird. Only the 5th gen units have the firmware to do this and map the channels from 119 into the guide correctly.
