View Full Version : weak signal strenght on every 4th transponder

When I run through my 32 transponders, 4,8,12,16,20,24,28,32 are all in the 45 - 65 range but all others are 75 - 95 range.
So every time it rains I lose a bunch of channels. It drives me crazy.
Does this make sense? Any suggestions?
I tried running a short (10ft) rg6 from the dish trying to tune in the signal strength of the weakest transponder. Couldn't get it any better.
Thanks in advance.

Yes this makes lots of sence. All those transponders that you mentionned are the low transponders on that satellite. First this to ask yourself is; What is the size of my dish? Because the bigger the pan of the dish, the more signal you will receive. So if you own an 18" pan, try upgrading it to a 24", 30", 36" or even a 10' if you can. The point is, The bigger the dish, the more signal you will receive. So the more signal, no more of those channels weather fading(disapearing)!

That makes sense. I'm using an 18" dish. I'll look into getting a bigger one and try it out. What kind of increase in signal strength can I expect by going to say a 30" dish?

I would also like to thank you execallibur. I totally missed the obvious solution to my problem!
I am in Northern Ontario (a few hours north of Toronto), I aimed the dish properly and there are no obsticles, yet I still can't get a high signal. I only just thought of it now that it's probably my slight distance from the DTV footprint, and that a bigger dish just might bring it up the bit I need. I noticed that the Expresspoo dishes here are slightly bigger than our Dave ones, could that be why?
I'm gonna try to get my hands on a bigger expresspoo dish and try it out. By the way, if you live where there is lots of snow in the winter (hey, we DON'T live in igloos!) I STRONGLY recommend getting a cover for your dish. You think you signal is bad now... :gg
Thanks again execallibur, and I hope you get it to work right insane99!
