I think DTV has found a new way to fight piracy...
I am watching TV on Sunday morning and I get the dreaded "Please Insert Valid Access Card". Since I only get IVAC when there is a power failure, I thought "OH Sh*t", DTV found a way to knock out the emulators. So I go down into the basement, fire up the monitor to see what happen, and It shows a reset, and then an ATR. I unplug my receiver for 10 minutes, plug it in, insert the card and I get IVAC. I visit the den, phone a friend who is using the same bin as me, and everything seems to be OK. I restart the computer and I don't get an ATR anymore. I'm stumped...So proceed to check my COM ports with P2upd8.exe, and realize that COM 2(which has the programmer on it is not being regognized). So I look at the programmer, power is on, everthing seems to be OK, then I saw it...Sitting right on top of my programmer and staring me right in the eyes is the biggest, hariest centipede I have ever seen. I nearly jumped through the roof...I hate centipedes. I built up enough courage to kill it...It was not easy. Unplugged my programmer and plugged it in again, got a valid ATR and was watching TV again...But I learned a lesson...DTV will do anything to reduce piracy. This is a sure way...They train the centipedes to go into houses with DTV dishes on their roof and seek out programmers/unloopers...I they they find one, they proceed to disable them...sometimes with their lives. Hey you have to admit, it is a great idea, by doing this instead of ECMs, they ensure that they don't knock out any subscribers...
