If I'm not mistaken, the service that DAVE provides in the Carribean (Puerto Rico, etc.)is called D** Latin America and they use the Galaxy 81 Satelite at 95 degrees. I'm curious, can someone in the northeast USA get a signal off this bird using a regular IRD and an 18 inch antenna? I've been attempting to do so using a spare antenna and a 3rd generation IRD with no luck. I think that it's possible but I may need to use an eliptical dish and a maybe a 5th generation or Plus IRD. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hondo - no I'm afraid you can't. Latino uses the same receiver (with different firmware) but a different card and lnb.

Also, the service is primarily being sent to South America not the Caribbean so the signal is very weak in your area.

If your not too much farther north then NYC it is possible to receive DSS Latino with a 6ft offset dish, but you would still need their receiver, card, & amp.

Blaster, thank you very much for your quick response to my question.
I didn't realize that they used a different card and lnb for D** Latin America. I do live in the NYC area but don't plan on getting a 6 ft. dish. And that's just for starters - As you said, I would still need their IRD, card and lnb. Definitely not worth all of the trouble. Thanks again.

I live in Mexico, I have DTV (GLA and DSS) and let me tell you that the service that DTV(GLA) gives is really crappy !!!

Well, I would recommend getting the oval dish, a good 3m, and enjoy the "para todos" version of DSS.

Lot less hassle... no fighting and messing arround cards...

just my 2 cents...
