John Ruiz
37-4
vs.
Evander Holyfield
37-5-11
Well Folks this is the next upcoming fight on HBO,I think if this goes the Distance then Holyfield will get it.(fixed)
John Ruiz is no Newbie to this and I hope he KO's Holyfield, but Evander still as a little left in him. Just how much we will see,I think he should retire.
Here was the outcome of the last 2,Ruiz to me is clearly the better boxer. We all remember the last one with Evander (how boring)
2000
Date Opponent Location Results
August 12 Evander Holyfield Las Vegas, NV L 12
2001
Date Opponent Location Results
March 3 Evander Holyfield Las Vegas, NV W 12
(Won WBA World Heavyweight Championship)

No offense,
But John Ruiz is a joke!!!! Remember that this guy was knocked out in the first round by David Tua. Now, in regards toHolyfield, he probably should hang them up. But as long as he feels competitive, he will fight on. I believe the first Holyfield-Ruiz fight was a draw, Ruiz won the second, but in both fights he should have been stopped. Evander knocked him down in both fights wit legit body blows, but Ruiz punked out claiming low blows, and they were ruled as such. Clearly, after reviewing the shots, both were clean blows, and should have rendered Evander the victor in both. Just the facts.

WRONG!! Your man won the first Fight, after hanging on, and on ledermans score card, He had Ruiz winning the fight.(So Did I)
The Second go around, there was no Mistake, just cause a boxer gets knocked down does not mean He Looses.Evander almost fell down due to exhaustion. Like I said He needs to retire.

Vic,
I know who won the first fight. I won a ton of cash on it. But you sound a littl biased. Evandr Holyfield is not my man. Secondly, if you would have thought about it for a second, I scored the first fight a draw, which is why I said the first fight should have been a draw. And lastly, I see you made no comment to Ruiz being stopped in each fight, only to claim foul both times. What are your thouhts on that???

I thought evander should have retired as soon as he started to look like a zombie when he fought.

BoxerJim,
I always think longer than a second, and I Have both the fights on Video,Ruiz had quite a few low blows. The reason for the low Blows is that Holyfield was getting exhausted so he was reaching out the only Way he knew. Again Evander, with all respect should retire,he as been a great boxer, but is no longer.

In response to the David Tua fight.
1996
Mar 15 John Ruiz
(Won WBC International Heavyweight Title) Atlantic City KO 1 .
That was back in 1996 and this is 2001,5 years makes a lot of difference in a fighter.(I believe)lol
It has for Evander, thats why he needs to Retire.

CrownVic,
I have seen both fights and also have videos on them, and it is pretty much common fact on most websites that Ruiz was hit by clean blows, and had they been ruled correctly by the referee,he would have lost both fights by KO. But hey, its always nice to talk boxing with guys who are intrested in the sport. Also, yes, Ruiz rebounded nicely from the Tua fight, but I consider him a top 20 fighter, nothing more, nothing less. Secondly, you ar exactly right. Evander should have retired after his second loss to Lewis.

Getting my ear bit off would have been enough to make me retire.

I think all heavyweights should retire, they all sucks now-a-days. The Division has never been the same since Bowe left for prison.

Not to change the subject to much here but did you all see Lewis on Monday night football?....I wish he would have put that ring threw Dennis Millers face...I just can't get use to that puts...Getting back to the topic...I still like Evander for dropping Tyson, and he does deserve a great deal of respect as a fighter (he WAS great) but I do believe he should retire....Hate to see the guy get hurt, and he will if he keeps going (in my opinion).

Well,I have to admit Boxing is my favorite Sport along with Soccer.
To me there is nothing better than watching some of the older fights,No Fixes and they had something to fight for.
I was in no way putting Evander (DOWN) but time has come for him to retire. The ability he had is no longer there, but I will give the Guy 10 out of 10 for courage and hope he does not get seriously hurt.
Just like sampakalypse stated the HeavyWeight Division is starting to suck more and more everyday, nothing really exciting.

Cell,
I think Evander(WAS)great in his time, A gentleman and a true sportsman.
But it really is time to throw in the Gloves.....
Wacko (Mike) needs to go DOWN and Lewis (Will Do It).
Lewis is a MUCH MUCH better (BOXER) please note I said BOXER. and not (Street Brawler).

Give us another one Evander:cool:
How about Another Tyson vs Holyfield..Before He retires
I believe that would sell more than The Lewis Fight.
What I would like to see is ..Ruiz vs Tyson, before Lennox puts the Maniac away for good. :gg

I used to be a big fan of boxing, until you feel the influence of the $$$$ on the sport. Promoters buying rankings, questionable decisions, it made a good sport look bad. Now the sport I enjoy watching is Mixed Martial Arts, ie UFC and Pride fighting championships. These guys will never earn the big $$$ boxers do, so less of a chance of fights being rigged. And while some fights end by knockout, most are stopped by one opponent submitting.

Yes I agree,
He looked Sloppy,Fought Sloppy and both looked out of shape.
It's sad to say seeing that RUIZ is the WBA Heavywieght Champ and 10 years younger.
Heavywieght Division really does suck...
