Hi Everyone,
I am not sure how many of you have seen the newspaper article below and what our Minister Shiela Copps thinks of Democracy as it concerns the Satellite Community in Canada but I hope it makes our collective blood boil. This totally undemocratic stance makes MOCKERY of the fact that the satellite community has raised a LOT of money and has done the right thing in having confidence in our Supreme Court. I believe that this article will greatly offend the Supreme Court and may even make them rule quickly in this matter. I assure everyone that this will NOT affect them negatively and that it will only serve to piss them off, liberals included, in that a minister of the Government is depreciating the role of the RULE of law in Canada.
Overall this cannot be bad for us and if we make use of it, by complaining to all our politicos and the press, then it could BENEFIT us bigtime.
The important thing here is that we DO NOT let this die on the vine. I am asking every ONE of YOU to take this letter, place your name on it and customize it slightly to fit YOUR SITUATION (as a dealer, viewer or whatever) and E-mail it to ALL of Canada's politicians. I have posted lists of these for ease of E-mailing at the following addresses.
For those who are unsure of HOW to do a MASS MAILING all you have to do is CUT and PASTE around 50 names at a time into the BCC header on your E-mail and address it to someone, preferably the Prime Minister.
If you Don't have a BCC then just Cut and Paste them into the normal ADDRESS HEADER or TO: in the E-mail. As long as they are separated by Commas "," then the letter will be sent to all the people whose addresses you have included. It may take 5 or 10 letters to get them out to everyone on the lists.
NEVER EVER has something been so VERY IMPORTANT and I implore and BEG you all to take a half-hour of your time and DO THIS. It is really critical and will be a tremendous opportunity missed to catch a MP making a very undemocratic statement and do NOTHING. This is MORE important than ANY DONATION and it does NOT cost you a single penny. All it takes is a few moments of your time. I have spent some 20 hours making up these mailing lists so that all you need to do is Cut and Paste so please don't let this chance pass. We have been screwed continuously by the government on this issue, PLEASE DO NOT LET it HAPPEN AGAIN.
Your letters, coming from many sources, will open a LOT of EYES and scare people into realizing that their support will diminish by statements like this. I have spent half the day sending this to the media and PRESS all across Canada and to all politicians but while the press need only be told ONCE, the more often the politicians get this from different people the MORE they are FORCED to PAY ATTENTION.
Please folks, take the time and DO IT.

Dear Sirs or Madam,
The following is an article from the National Post on December 8, 2001. This comes only days after the Supreme Court of Canada heard the appeal of Bell Expressvu v. Can-Am which concerns all Canadians. I am one of those affected by this forthcoming decision and live under the rule of law in Canada.
How can a Minister of the Government disregard our Supreme Court so openly when the “rule of law in“ Canada requires just the opposite stance?
This stance clearly puts the system of justice in Canada into disrepute and I will work with many other Canadians to make this point with the public and point out that the citizens last recourse between the Government and the law is now non-existent due to the liberal government stance. It is also an affront to other members of parliament who may not act in such an un-democratic and autocratic manner. This is a clear example of how democracy can fail when one party has such tremendous electoral power and in view of this many Canadians may well change their political allegiance after this point is made.
Mr. Richard Rex, the owner of Ca-Am now finds that he has been dragged through the entire justice system in Canada, first in the B.C. Superior (supreme) courts where he won, then to the B.C. Appeals court where he won again, all at great cost and difficulty to be then appealed to the Supreme Court of Canada. Now only 4 days after presenting his case there at a cost of approaching $100,000.00, he is told that the law in Canada is meaningless and this Minister Shiela Copps as well as Mr. Brian Tobin will decide against him REGARDLESS of what the Supreme Court of Canada rules. This in support of one of Canada’s richest communications companies who obtained that position by operating a Government mandated monopoly phone company for many years in this country. This is an outrage and an affront to all of us who live under the “rule of law” and the system by which Canadians have lived throughout our history.
I urge you to take action and bring this to the fore and to ensure that Canadians have the protection conferred on them by our parliament and which we have always had the comfort of. Rejecting our law in support of a commercial interest like Bell Expressvu can encourage Canadians to believe that there is no law in Canada and that only MONEY counts and possibly act accordingly. That is a Canada that could sink into anarchy giving up all that our forefathers have fought for over the last 100 years or more.

Ottawa will dog grey-market satellite firms

OTTAWA - The federal government will continue efforts to block grey-market satellite distributors from doing business in Canada regardless of a Supreme Court of Canada decision expected by next spring, sources say.
Ottawa is considering issuing a public statement before Christmas backing Bell ExpressVu and other licensed Canadian operators, and will change the legislation governing satellite distribution if the Supreme Court rules in favour of a small company that sells direct-to-home decoders that receive U.S. signals, sources said.
Sheila Copps, the Heritage Minister, told a Canadian industry group this week she will ensure the government's interpretation of the Radiocommunications Act, which is that it bans grey market satellite distribution, is upheld regardless of the court ruling.
She told the group she wants to issue a statement jointly with Brian Tobin, the Industry Minister, in the coming weeks.
Mr. Tobin would be prepared to sign off on such a statement, a source said.
The government's signaling of its intention is a blow to Can-Am Satellites of Maple Ridge, B.C., and other grey marketers. Can-Am has won two cases in provincial appeal courts, arguing the issue is freedom of expression and unfettered access to public airwaves. Both courts concluded it does not violate the Act, as written, to sell decoders in Canada.

Cut and paste the parts between the lines and then paste all the names in the mail lists into the BSS header if you have one or into the TO: normal e-mail address space if you don't. Either will send the letter but using the BCC field will NOT make it look like a chain letter or SPAM. Each one is addressed individually when its in the BCC as though they were sent a CARBON COPY. BCC means BLIND Carbon Copy because they do NOT see who you sent it to, just the adressee (the PM) and them. The PM's E-mail address is:
