An Important Message From CAFFII
(The Canadian Alliance for Freedom of Information and Ideas)

CAFFII recently intervened on behalf of Canadians in a Supreme Court of Canada hearing to defend the Charter of Rights and Freedoms against the onslaught of the Canadian Cable and Telephone Monopolies

The Government and Monopolies wish to make it a crime for Canadians to watch Foreign Broadcasts. Broadcasts like Sky Angel an all Christian Satellite service. Bell ExpressVU and The Liberal Government intend to make it a Criminal offence to watch the 36 Channel of all Christian Programming. Canadians caught watching this all Christian Satellite Service will face 1 year in jail and thousands of dollars in fines.

We feel our Lawyers did an excellent job in clarifying for the Court the real issues in this matter, the issues of Freedom of media, freedom of religious worship.

It is now apparent the Bell ExpressVU and the Liberal Government feel they have lost this case. Minister of Heritage Sheila Copps has snubbed her nose at the Supreme Court of Canada. She has stated publicly that she and the Liberal Government do not care what the Supreme Court of Canada Rules. That it is the Liberal Governments intent to IGNORE the Supreme Court of Canada's ruling and go after Canadians that watch foreign Broadcasts like the Non CRTC approved Sky Angel all Christian Network.

Minister Sheila Copps said publicly that she and Minister Brian Tobin will release a joint statement in the coming weeks. This statement will be informing Canadians of their intent to make it a Criminal offence to watch foreign Broadcasts like the all Christian Network Sky Angel.

Please contact your MP and tell them you wish for them to support Freedom of Information and Ideas. Tell them you do not wish for them to support the monopoly's attempts to put Canadians in jail for watching non CRTC approved Broadcasts.

Please Visit www.caffii.net
Support our efforts to defend your rights against the Monopolies and all those who seek to take away your Rights as defined by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Great idea! Anyone have an idea of the dish of choice in Tobin's and Copps' ridings?

Maybe I am way out of line here, If i am then let a Mod delete this post. I do not frequent this forum often, and know little of Canadian afairs.
I live in Texas, the only state in the U.S. With the right to succede if that is what we choose to do, among other rights granted only to the state of Texas.
If I read this right, the Canadian government is telling it's citizens what news they can hear, and basicly what opinions they can form. T.V is a great influince in many peoples lives, it is what they know of the world beyond their walls. It is information. To quote a copyrighted part of this site"Freedom of Information is a Right, Not a crime" If that is not true, how can any state be free?

Hello

It is the Power of the Broadcast lobby just like in America.

Why is it an American from Texas living in Ohio cant watch a local station from Texas on satellite.

It would be an offence under American Law for anyone to provide you with this signal even though it is on their Bird.

So if I grew up in Texas moved to Ohio and wanted to watch my home town News I could go to jail for 5 years for doing so in the US of A.

Now no one would sit still if they tried to ban a newspaper from Texas in Ohio would they.

Most people have no Idea this is going on you put it to them like I just did and they get quite upset.

This battle is about informing the public as much as it is fighting in court.

It does not hurt to send letters to any non Bell owned media . I have been successful in having one of my province's small papers reprinting National Post stories on this satellite battle .

I'm not so sure 10,000 dollar ads are the way to go[what I read in other threads] but I do like what Just the Fact's did . Look for the Ministers from small provinces as well !

Small newspapers with agressive Editors can be of great help to us ! I really think every letter addressed to a politician should also be sent to his/her area newspaper that can affect them right in his/her home riding . DTV and Cband users vote too !

Plus a few posters in coffee shops or outside of beer stores lol and such that might make the users of DTV more aware...it's a simple message that can be understood by everyone , if , you can reach them soon enough .

I know some figure that the papers will never do anything but that is untrue . They will read your letters and although they might not print them they will know how things are going down and might carry some of the bigger stories/articles in their small local . Throw numbers at them , like I /you have x thousand customers in my area that are directly affected if this happens .

It all helps everyone , so never give up ! Many's a big battle have been victorious because of all the smaller victories .
