Default How to get past the code on rented vhs tapes.

Does anybody know how to get around the code on rented tapeds so that I can record them?

There are two main methods of copy protection on video tapes. The first is Macrovision. The second is Copyguard. Do a web search on either and you will get the information you seek. Repairfaq.org Has a great faq on Macrovision.

You can buy a de-macro box for 25-50 dollars that connects between the 2 vcr's. If i remember correctly MCM electronics sells them.

Or you can get a DVD player, like an apex, on some dvd players you can disable macrovision (and region encoding). If you need any help on the dvd players just pm me

i guess i am lucky, I bought a go-video dual deck vcr about 7 years ago, set me back a pretty penny then, but i have yet to meet a macro or copyguard that would stop it
